DUG DROID

DUG DROID
by Elias and Darth Daddy

This is a droid that I designed and Dad painted for me.  We call him a Dug Droid because he walks on his arms like a Dug. The arms and legs are from a General Grievous and they were heavily modified.  The torso is from a POTF 4-LOM and the head is a B.A.D. BG-J38.  Only the legs articulate at the hips.

These droids were very popular on Malastare.  The camera battery died during the photo shoot.  We'll try and take more pictures later.

Our Dug Droid was featured in the Customizer Spotlight of DeathStarPlans.net

CAFN Episode 27- CAFN Roundtable - Parts Casting Masters

STAR WARS PODCASTS

Custom Action Figure News' first run at the roundtable hit a few glitches, and unfortunately, never saw the light of day. We have a feeling it was really awesome, but since both of their recorders crapped out, the world will never know.  Originally Remco of Incom's Customs and Doc Outlands participated on the roundtable, but they weren't available to come back for the redo. Good news is CAFN's new recorder seems to be awesome and they are back in business. Thankfully, Sith_fire30 and Clonehead were still available for the second attempt. If they could not have come on there would have no roundtable.  We here at CFTK were super happy to listen to this particular episode because it focused on the latest aspect of action figure customizing that we are looking to add to our repertoire.

Enjoy!

drod26 is an engineer during the day and a dedicated father and husband. When he is not attending to his family or doing house work, he is digging throughout his pile of fodder, consulting art books, looking at the color wheel for inspiration for his next custom. His style is to come up with a well-designed character visually and aesthetically. drod26 got started customizing in 2011 when he joined YakFaceForums and his inspiration to customize came from seeing all the great work there and the welcoming members like Chewie.. If you like his work drop him a line. Want to know what his recipes are? Just ask, he will gladly share them with you.  Unfortunately, he doesn't do commissions at this time.

drod26 was the first subscriber to our blog and it's really cool that we now have the honor to share his work with all of you.  Dad and drod26 started making customs around the same time and were fellow padawan learners over at Yakface.com.  Dad is really blown away by the paint work of drod26, especialy on the horns of his Iktochi custom.  Dad hopes one day he can paint as well as drod26.  This video is a must see!

Hondo Ohnaka's Pirate Gang: PeakOB1 Collaboration

This project started when Dad bought a Gwarm custom action figure from customizer PeakOB1 for my collection .  After Hasbro released Hondo Ohnaka without any of his Weequay pirates, Dad toyed with the idea of creating Hondo's pirate gang. When Dad saw that his friend Star Wars customizer, PeakOB1 had started to create some of the characters he was hoping to make, Dad commissioned his help in getting the project done.  PeakOB1 is well known in the customizing community for his Clone Wars custom action figures and throughout the past year we formed a really good friendship.

The two of them chatted about the Wars, figured out who was going to create what, and Dad got off the phone.  Then Dad grabbed some parts that he bought a while back off of a shelf in the corner of our kitchen, and he started to create two pirates of his own.  It was such a fun project.  It was the first time Dad worked on a project with another customizer other than me and he said it was an awesome experience.  The figures are just incredible! I only wish Hasbro would create them so all of you could have them too.  Dad said that this project will definitely go down as one of his favorites even if it did take forever to get those group shots done.

Hondo Ohnaka's Pirate Gang
created by Darth Daddy & PeakOB1

Hondo started the pirate gang after he and several servants of Porla the Hutt fled from Boonta on Porla's skiff and taking with them several Ubrikkian tanks and Starhawk speeder bikes.[1] Ohnaka managed to make his money by selling spice on the black market and by holding hostages for ransom.

The pirates were known to use swoops, tanks, Flarestar-class Weequay ships and a Surronian cruiser in combat. Their main choice of weapons consisted out of ancient blaster rifles and blaster pistols. The gang mainly consisted of Weequays, Nikto, Bith and Jawas, the organization's base of operations was located on the Outer Rimworld of Florrum.[2][3]

"Turk Falso"
created by PeakOB1

Falso tried to double cross his captain, Hondo Ohnaka, the leader of a pirate gang on the backwater world of Florrum to steal the spice ransom for himself. He ordered a fellow pirate, Barb Mentir to shoot down the ship carrying the spice in order to get it. His plan worked, partially, but the clone troopers and Jar Jar Binks survived the crash, killing only the pilots and Kharrus. After he heard that there were possible survivors from Mentir, he went to get the spice himself along with some other pirates utilizing swoop bikes. Falso stole the spice from the wreckage of the ship located in the Doshar fields, but the surviving clones and Jar Jar got it back after chasing Falso and his gang by riding on skalders, creatures native to Florrum.

After returning to the pirate base, Falso said to Ohnaka that the Republic hadn't send the spice, but an army. He asked if he could send tanks to destroy the army. Ohnaka gave him permission, but Falso's plan failed. One of the tanks was accidentally destroyed by Jar Jar who rammed it into one of the power lines to the pirate outpost. The remaining two tanks were attacked by Commander Stone and the clone troopers and both tanks were captured. They used them to quickly go to Ohnaka's pirate base and get in unnoticed. Falso was about to flee in a Flarestar-class Weequay ship knowing that Ohnaka would figure out his betrayal, when he and his accomplice were killed by Count Dooku who escaped from the pirate prison during the power loss in the base. Dooku then escaped Florrum in the Weequay saucer craft which the two pirates were planning to escape in.[4]

"Barb Mentir"
created by PeakOB1

Barb Mentir was a male Weequay and a member of Hondo Ohnaka's Florrum-basedpirate gang. Around 21 BBY, Mentir cooperated with fellow gang member Turk Falso to betray Ohnaka, who had captured CountDooku, the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Ohnaka planned to hand the Sith Lord over to the Republic in exchange for a ransom in the form of spice. Falso betrayed Ohnaka and ordered Mentir to shoot down the Republic Nu-class shuttle that was carrying the ransom over Florrum so that they could steal the spice. Mentir succeeded in shooting the shuttle down, but failed to kill its passengers or obtain the spice. After Falso fell short in his own endeavor to claim the ransom, he and Mentir attempted to escape in a Flarestar-class Weequay ship. However, Dooku used the Force to choke Falso and manipulated him to shoot Mentir in the chest, killing him/

"Dagu Flask"
created by PeakOB1

Dagu Flask was a male Weequay pirate and a member of Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang around 21 BBY. During the Clone Wars, Count Dooku was kidnapped by the pirate gang, and they demanded a spice ransom from the Republic in exchange for the Count. The Republic sent Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to the pirate base on Florrum to confirm the capture of Dooku. Hondo Ohnaka, the leader of the gang, was eager to triple the ransom; so he captured the Jedi too. The Sith Lord and the Jedi tried to escape on many an occasion, but were recaptured each time.

During one such escape, the prisoners attempted to escape by pole-vaulting over the wall of the pirate outpost. They succeeded only partially; with Skywalker clinging onto the edge of the wall, while Kenobi and Dooku held on to his legs. Meanwhile Flask and several other pirates opened fire upon the escapees. Anakin couldn't hold on any longer and told Kenobi to drop Dooku. Suddenly, Flask ordered to cease fire. Ohnaka was then standing on the wall, and told his men to arrest the prisoners.

Flask was known to be a master sniper. He had a lot of experience with blaster rifles.[1]

PeakOB1's three pirates were featured on the front page of Imperial Shipyards.

"Gwarm and Pikk Mukmuk"
created by PeakOB1

Gwarm was a pink- and orange-faced Weequay who operated as a pirate in Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang during the Clone Wars. He carried an old type of blaster rifle with a vibrodagger mounted on the front of the weapon. Around 21 BBY, Gwarm was part of Ohnaka's band of pirates that traveled to Felucia to extort a portion of the valuable crop of nysillin from a community of Felucian farmers. Gwarm and his cohorts came against more than they bargained for when they found themselves going up against not just the simple farmers, but also four bounty hunters, hired by the farmers to protect them, and three Jedi who had crash landed on the planet and found their way to the farm. Towards the end of the skirmish, Gwarm noticed their leader, Hondo Ohnaka, hanging off a cliff at the mercy of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. He called for an immediate retreat to go and rescue Ohnaka, forcing the pirates to leave empty handed.

Pikk Mukmuk, also known as Muk Muk monkey, was a Kowakian monkey-lizard who was a member of Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang during the Clone Wars. The monkey-lizard was present with him during his raids on Nysillin farms on Felucia. He unsuccessfully attacked Anakin Skywalker. He also knew how to drive a tank, and managed to kill Rumi Paramita with a cannon blast. Pikk Mukmuk was the brother of Pilf Mukmuk, another monkey-lizard owned by Ohnaka's gang.

"CLONE WARS
WEEQUAY PIRATE PARSEL"
 created by PeakOB1

Around 20 BBY, Parsel piloted Hondo Ohnaka's ship on his way to attack a group of Jedi Initiates and steal their lightsaber crystals.

Parsel later informed Jiro that a ship's communication system was silenced, but working, and that there were life forms aboard the ship. After that, when it turned out that Darth Maul and his brother Savage Opress were on the ship, this pirate along with Jiro and some of the other pirates joined them against Hondo Ohnaka. Later on, when the two Sith were overpowered by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hondo, the remaining pirates joined Hondo again, and helped him to chase the brothers away from Florrum.

"Finn Tegotash"
created by Darth Daddy

Finn Tegotash was a member of Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang in the Clone Wars around 21 BBY,[1] and was present during the time that the gang held Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Count Dooku prisoner. Finn preferred to wield two small knives in combat rather than a blaster, the standard weapon of the Ohnaka Gang. He wore very simple clothing, consisting of a drab beige top and plain blue pants; as well as standard boots.

Created almost entirely from a Shahan Alama action figure, Dad sculpted and modified the head, and then painted the forearms he substituted from a Hondo Ohnaka to create this action figure.

"Peg Leg Piit"
created by Darth Daddy

Peg Leg Piit was a female member of Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang in the Clone Wars around 21 BBY. "Peg Leg Piit" was nicknamed for her purple peg leg in place of her missing right leg. She assisted with the capture of Count Dooku and the drugging of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, two Jedi who came to claim the Sith Lord.

Peg Leg Piit was created using the head, torso, and upper arms of a Clone Wars Shahan Alama action figure, the articulated hips and upper thighs of a Clone Wars Mace Windu, the lower leg and peg leg were created from fodder we had laying around and Dad used the knee joints of the Shahan Alama.  The holster was a modified Vintage Bom Vimdin holster.  Dad then added Apoxie Sculpt to the figure and modified the existing pieces to make the almost completely sculpted Peg Leg Piit.

Dad's Peg Leg Piit was featured on the front page of Imperial Shipyards.

Because I invested so much time and money into building Elias' Hondo Ohnaka gang, I decided to take my Vintage style R5-P8 and give him a Clone Wars astromech body to fit the pirate collection better.  I used the 2010 Clone Wars R4-P17 action figure as the base and used a black wash and some cinnamon to weather him up.  I made the head interchangeable between what I already had, as well as for my new incarnation of one of my favorite droids of all-time.  I just cracked the astromech's head off with a screwdriver and then I attached the head that I made a few years ago with the rubber housing I cut off one of my blue B.A.D. astromechs that we had several of.

CLONE WARS "R5-P8"
created by Darth Daddy

R5-P8 was an R5-series astromech droid produced by Industrial Automaton. It served as an assassin droid of Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang during the Clone Wars. It had a blaster pistol fixed on its head, so it could serve both repairs and security purposes.

This droid appeared in Season 1 of the Clone Wars, "The Gungan General" episode.  I created him by repainting the Vintage R5-D4 action figure. As soon as the figure came out, I knew I wanted to try and make this droid even though there were rumors circulating that he may find his way to a proper release by Hasbro down the road. We now know my time was not wasted because Hasbro discontinued the Clone Wars line.  I used the gun from the Toys R' Us Nikto Guard and modified it by cutting pieces off some guns in our fodder bin. Nothing too crazy was done to make this one. What you see is what you get.

GROUP PICTURES

We just had a chance to take a few pictures of Hondo Ohnaka's Weequay Pirate Gang  all together.

I bet if Hasbro ever sold these in 3-packs they would  do very well.

They could sell the droid separately.
