DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: DARTH DUSTY

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars customizer Darth Dusty in the latest Customizing Corner over at The Star Wars Underworld.

Yes, there is another Darth.   In the Star Wars custom action figure community there is no rule of two.

Darth Dusty is an artist that has been drawing, painting, and sculpting for over twenty-five years, and customizing for over ten. He mainly enjoys customizing figures from the Expanded Universe now known as Star Wars Legends, as well as creating characters of his own. His goal is to give people something rare and unique; to challenge himself to make customs of characters that may never see the light of day on a store shelf.

Mostly creating figures for adult collectors, Darth Dusty loves to incorporate soft goods, and hand sculpting new parts. Darth Dusty uses many materials, such as, Apoxie Sculpt, acrylic paints, casting resins, and even puffy paint, as key elements in each creation. Darth Dusty researches many of the figures he plans to build to get as much accuracy as possible without compromising the functionality of the action figure.

He has made the widest assortment of figures from the video games The Force Unleashed and The Force Unleashed II than any other customizer I've encountered and I'm a big fan of his samurai interpretations of Vader, the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett.  He's a huge talent!  I made a video of his work early last year if anyone wants to see more from this artist after reading this feature.

Fairly retired from doing commissioned figures, he loves hearing ideas on what figures to make. Darth Dusty keeps a list of characters on the back burner, so expect to see plenty more figures to come.

Darth Daddy's Google+ Profile Surpasses a Million Views

Less than a year ago, Dad opened a Google+ profile so we both could appear as guest speakers on a Google+ Hangout video podcast.  After Dad's profile was completed, we forgot that we ever created the profile.  About two months ago we decided to start using the profile to increase exposure for the blog here and Dad's profile page really took off.  Last night, Dad's profile cleared a million views.  We never believed that something we did at our kitchen table would have ever become so popular.  Thank you all for all of your interest in our Star Wars custom action figure art!

"JABBA's PALACE - DROID TORTURE RACK" painted by Elias

Not every droid's owner is a nice one, so you better do your job well. If you have the wrong kind of master, you may find yourself disintegrated on a cruel device like the droid torture rack!

Elias only painted the torture rack and not the droid.

SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

"After seeing Chewie's droid, I really want to take mine to the next level now that I have the rack painted up." - Elias

Torture Rack
Purchased from Holeinthegroundpro.com, with added "hooks" from droid parts from a WED droid that came with the Legacy Jawa

Sad Droid
head - TAC medical droid

We saw the torture rack kit sold by Hole In the Ground Productions on Facebook a few months ago and grabbed a set afraid they'd sell out fast. This kit comes in four unpainted pieces. A top and bottom in cast resin and two aluminum "pistons" that glue into place. When assembled, it measures approximately 6" wide by 6" tall. This diorama piece was not made to fit a specific action figure, so you will have to decide how best to display it. You may have to modify a figure for best results.

Elias just finished painting his torture rack and it really spiced up his Jabba's Palace display. Grab yours while you can!

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT #38: MEATHEAD TOYS

So I guess this isn't exactly an action figure. It's a statue. He stands about 2.5" tall and is solid hand cast resin.  It was love at first sight and we had to get him.  He'd be great in a Star Wars diorama.

MEATHEAD TOYS struck gold with this concept.  His execution is exceptional too!  We found his work surfing the net and we recommend checking MEATHEAD TOYS out.  He has a lot of fun pieces that you won't see anywhere else.

He has a lot of customs for sale on his website, as well as this enlightened droid pictured below.  We really love his Droids cartoon inspired astromechs with their long skinny limbs. We'll leave his Wookiee figures as a surprise for when you give his page a look.  Love our purchase on this one.  This piece is just beautiful!

He's here to help open the door to enlightenment.

Make Your Own Admiral Ackbar's Command Chair, Tatooine Hut & Endor Imperial Bunker (4" scale)

We're huge fans of TheBudgetJedi's tutorials and his latest video is another awesome installment that teaches us all how to enhance our Star Wars displays on the cheap!

Here's are two bonus videos that we missed when they came out, but they are equally cool.

I think we're going to try this one.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: JVCustoms

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars customizer JVCustoms in the latest Customizing Corner over at The Star Wars Underworld.

Recently I set up a deviantART page to help promote the blog I write with my son.  While setting up our page, I came across the Star Wars custom action figure art of JVCustoms.

JVCustoms is a professional figure customizer of 3 ¾ inch through 1/6 scale figures, as well as, vehicles of miniatures up to the 3 ¾ inch figure scale. What caught my eye the most from this artist was some very cool looking dolls that JVCustoms made featuring some of our favorite female Star Wars characters.  When I posted his work last year on my blog, he got a warm reception from the Fangirls who visitus .  I really liked the custom nose art on his vehicles.

I figured this week it would be cool to display some customs on here that were a bit outside the box in regards to what most people imagine when they think of Star Wars custom action figures.  These customs are a bit different than what I have been posting so far, but they are just as cool to look at as everything else that I've posted here.

JVCustoms is not currently accepting new commissions but he sells from his own collection often and will entertain offers for many of his already-completed customs. He also sells his customs on eBay.
