CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: "CIKATRO VIZAGO" created by SWK Kustoms

We just got the last of the Hasbro released Star Wars Rebels figures that we wanted in more articulated form.  Star Wars customizer, SWK Kustoms, really transformed Hasbro's action figure of Cikatro Vizago by adding ball-jointed elbows, knees, and ankles to their five point articulated figure.  SWK Kustoms even added some swivel wrists as well.

Here at Customs for the Kid, we had always wondered what this line would have looked like if consumers were able to obtain the superior craftsmanship that was available in The Clone Wars 3 3/4" action figure line, before the quality of the action figures was drastically reduced.  The idea of more articulated Rebels action figures was just dreamy.  Deep down I think many collectors wanted to more articulated figures made and available on store shelves.  Especially if they opened their figures.

Vizago was the fifth Rebels custom action figure we purchased from SWK Kustoms. We really liked how he maintained the Hasbro aesthetic in his customization of his Rebels figures.  The action figures all had extremely durable construction and were manufactured out of ball joints taken from multiple action figures. (It takes the ball joints from several super-articulated action figures to create a custom action figure that was made out of a 5 POA figure.  This means improving the articulation on the action figure can become a very costly enterprise.)

When we saw SWK Kustoms Rebels figures available for purchase, our immediate response was to buy them right away. The savings we'd receive just in parts and labor alone made purchasing his versions a real bargain.  Because we were already in the process of working on more than six custom Rebels figures of our own and we were using the same technique with the very same style that he was...it was a no brainer.  It was like shopping out half of the work on our project.  We couldn't have been more pleased with out decision.

Star Wars Celebration Anaheim - Action Figure Customizing Panel Video Presentation & Commemorative Video

Big thanks to swnut77.com for posting this video.  It's the first one we found so far.

Sillof provided the audience with an introduction to the hobby, and explained the different types of customs that exist. He gave a brief overview of how custom action figures are made, how to disassemble and reassemble action figures, sculpting help, paint tips, as well as information on molding and casting. Other topics covered were 3-D printing, as well as the supplies and resources that Star Wars custom action figure artists utilize in their step-by-step process.

Six artists were featured: PeakOB1, Sillof, Sith_fire30, Chewie, and Customs for the Kid aka Darth Daddy & Elias. It's was a huge honor for us to be included in the featured artists at this year's panel.

The Panel had some of the best Celebration exclusives available, random giveaways of Star Wars custom action figures created by the featured artists. This was one panel you didn't want to miss.

The event was sponsored by Aves and Sculpey.

CELEBRATION ANAHEIM 2015: STAR WARS CUSTOM ACTION FIGURE PANEL - COMMEMORATIVE VIDEO

This video was put together by Darth Daddy of "Customs for the Kid".  It was created to play during the Q&A of the Action Figure Customizing Panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this past Friday.  The video features almost all of the Star Wars custom action figure artist's work we have archived here on our blog. We hope it's a nice surprise for the artists whose work appears in the video to know that their work was made into a video that was going to be displayed in front of the Celebration audience this year.  It was really nice to be able to expand the work on display beyond the five artists in the customizer showcase.

It is only the second time ever that this panel was presented at a Star Wars Celebration. The first time was at Celebration VI. Jamie Follis aka Sillof hosted the first event and did again this past Friday.

Sillof spent the remainder of Celebration at the Diorama Workshop located at the Hasbro booth where he taught the very first classes given at a Celebration event on how to build your own Star Wars custom action figures.

Celebration Anaheim - Diorama Workshop Giveaway Raffle Today!

Mirko Martinovic's Sabine Wren painted Tie Fighter is the exclusive giveaway that I would want most at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim.  This custom Star Wars vehicle is just gorgeous.  We can all hope that Hasbro releases a version of this vehicle from the season finale of Star Wars Rebels "Fire Across the Galaxy" in the near future.  Until any announcements are made, this is the only way to acquire this iconic vehicle.  I spoke with Mirko, and this custom took him 3 whole weeks to complete.  A true labor of love.  The raffle happens at 2pm on Sunday April 19th at the Diorama Workshop at the Hasbro booth at the convention center.  The raffle is for kids 16 and under!

STAR WARS: REBELS "SABINE WREN" created by Darth Daddy

I started Sabine the day after Easter, but didn't have a chance to work on her again until today.  I started brainstorming this figure before I even had the base figure.  I used a Clone Wars Padme head for Sabine's, and then sculpted hair onto it. (The Padme in the white outfit with the purple hood.)  I resculpted the lower portion of the face too. Sabine has more of a u-shaped face while Padme has more of a v-shaped face. I took the neck from that figure also so now both her helmet and new head are ball jointed.

To add articulation, I used Cad Bane elbows and Clone Wars Aayla Secura knees. I also added swivel wrists with some spare pegs I had laying around. Today, I sculpted her knee pads, cleaned out her joints to eliminate paint rub, and painted the figure.

I posted a work in progress picture on Sunday that really made the rounds letting me know I was moving in a good direction.
