"NED KIERKEGUARD - JABBA's MERCENARY PILOT" created by Darth Daddy

Ned Kierkeguard was employed by Jabba the Hutt. He was a guard on the second skiff during the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon in 4 ABY, where he was kicked by Luke Skywalker into the Sarlacc and fell to his death. This guard wore a tan outfit, black helmet and carried a DL-18 Blaster Pistol.

The action figure was produced with the head and body of the Hoth 3-pack AT-ST Driver and the helmet and harness of a G.I. Joe Retaliation Cobra Trooper action figure.  A few modifications were made to the harness and the helmet to improve screen accuracy.

"VUL TAZAENE" created by Darth Daddy

This action figure was a project that was inspired by Star Wars action figure customizer, Jabbapalacespy over in the Rebelscum customizing forum. I copied his recipe with just a small modification using the Vintage Weequay Skiff Master body, the forearms of a Comic Pack Luke Skywalker and the head of Sephjet Josall from the Target Geonosis 2-pack. Jabbapalacespy used the forearms of a Comic Pack Talon Karrde. I lengthened the sleeves with some Green Stuff and painted the sculpt black and added a glossy coat of paint to the tunic. It was nice to add another Jabba character to our display!

Vul Tazaene was a male Kiffar security officer from the planet Kiffex. By 4 ABY, he was looking for a pair of identical twin con artists called the Tonnika sisters. He had also fallen in love with one of them, though he was not sure if it was Brea or Senni Tonnika. That year, Tazaene was present in the crime lord Jabba the Hutt's palace on the planet Tatooine when Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker arrived in an attempt to rescue his friend Han Solo. Tazaene also accompanied the Hutt to his luxury sail barge, the Khetanna, when Skywalker and Solo were taken to be executed at the Great Pit of Carkoon. The captives fought back, however, and the sail barge was ultimately destroyed.

"JESS" created by Darth Daddy

Here at home we are hoping to work some more on filling out Jabba's Palace with some of the unproduced characters from the action figure line. Our latest addition is Jess.

In 4 ABY, Jess was a Human female musician present in Jabba's Palace, hoping to eventually leave the establishment by joining a band. Jess was often seen in the company of Bib Fortuna stroking his lekku. He reciprocated the gesture, often leading her around the throne room by hand. She was in Bib's company when the dancing girl Oola was fed to the rancor. Later, she was left to slumber alone on Jabba's dais, as Bib Fortuna lay in wait with his master, ready to spring the trap as Leia Organa, disguised as Boushh, released Han Solo from carbonite.

To create the action figure, Dad used the lower legs of an Indiana Jones Marion Ravenwood action figure, the upper torso and arms of a Vintage Slave Leia, and an original headsculpt that he created.

"Sergeant Doallyn" created by Darth Daddy

The custom action figure for the character of Sergeant Doallyn took less than one minute to make.  I just sliced the neck ball joint off of the Bane Malar figure and popped the head of the new Black Series Brock Starsher (Jabba's Skiff Guard #27) onto the Bane Malar body.  I bought the Bane Malar as soon as I found out Brock Starsher was being released.  It was a great way to add to Jabba's Denizens.  Expect this custom to show up heavy in the forums by a variety of customizers.  Lot's of people have plans to make this one.

I have to say I'm super pleased with Hasbro's Black Series release of Brock Starsher.  Not only did they give us a really cool and unique addition for our Jabba dioramas, Hasbro gave us a figure with a head that could be used with one of their older releases to make a brand new unique figure for the same play environment.  It's nice to know they're listening.

On a short side note, I want to share another complimentary remark in regards to Hasbro.  Many collectors have been complaining about how easily the latest waves of Black Series figures come apart at the joints.  I remember a while back, I asked Hasbro to start making action figure joints pop apart like they do on the Vintage collection Ponda Boba figure that way it would make it easier for us to customize our action figures and more kids could get in on the action.  Sure, maybe the easily dismantled figures have more to do with lower production standards, but the Droid Factory episode of Collector's Cast with Dan Curto and James Burns featuring the interview with the artists of Boss Fight Studios, was really eye opening and made me realize that customizers ARE on Hasbro's radar.

There are actually two Doallyns in Return of the Jedi. The first is Sergeant Doallyn who is seen more closely when Chewbacca pushes him down the steps of the entrance to Jabba's Audience Chamber. This Doallyn wears a black mask and black body suit. Some believe that it is Bane Malar who is pushed down the stairs, but the two characters have different helmets.

The second Doallyn appears aboard the second skiff at the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon. He wears a black helmet and a white body suit. This Doallyn is killed by Luke Skywalker, yet Doallyn is supposed to have survived the battle of Carkoon and returned to Jabba's Palace to rescue Yarna d'al' Gargan. There were probably two actors wearing similar outfits and the same helmet during filming. It is assumed that the black-outfit Doallyn in Jabba's Palace is the actual Doallyn, while the white-outfit skiff guard is a completely different character that has been identified as Brock Starsher.

A hunter by trade, Doallyn had two reasons to wear a mask: the first being that he needed to breathe hydron-three to stay alive on planets with an oxygen-rich atmosphere, the second being that his face was once hideously scarred by the poisoned claws of a Corellian sand panther. He eventually came to Mos Eisley to hunt a krayt dragon for Jabba the Hutt to pit against his rancor in a head-to-head fight. However, he ended up getting drunk in the cantina, and gambled to his detriment. He awoke from his drinking binge to discover that he had lost the game and now owed Jabba a year's service.

During one memorable time in Jabba's palace, immediately following the feeding of Oola to the rancor, an Ubese bounty hunter named Boushh (actually Princess Leia Organa in disguise) silenced the crowd with a blaster shot. As Doallyn hurried over to inspect the situation, he found himself thrown painfully against the wall by "Boushh's" quarry, the powerful Wookiee Chewbacca. Both Leia and Chewbacca were only posing as a bounty hunter and captive respectively to attempt to rescue their friend, Han Solo.[1]

I kept enough off the ball joint on the torso so that the ball socket on the head snapped into place snugly.

Super-Articulated "8D8 aka Atedeeate" Action Figure created by Elias

Last month I was checking out the Facebook page of Colins Customs and I saw him super-articulate an 8D8 droid with the arms and legs of a Build A Droid BG-J38 from the old Legacy B.A.D. collection.  I thought it would be a cool project to tackle since I had the spare parts laying around.  I asked Dad to help me modify the legs so that I could add the pistons from the old 5 POA 8D8 figure from the POTF line and add the pistons to my B.A.D. legs.  Once Dad finished the modifications for me, I painted the figure.  Now not only does he have the original swivel shoulders and neck, but he also now has ball jointed hips, as well as added articulation in his elbows, knees, and ankles.

"Originally designed for work in ore extraction facilities, 8D8 and other members of his series were strong, solid, and simple.  At some point, he was modified to serve as a starship maintenance droid

Following EV-9D9's migration to Jabba's Palace's on Tatooine in Cyborg Operations, 8D8 was completely reprogrammed to serve as a dedicated torturer of both droids, and organics.
Despite his programming, 8D8 retained a secret dislike for his sadistic taskmaster, EV-9D9.

Around 4 ABY, during the time that Rebels came to rescue Han Solo from Jabba, 8D8 was following EV-9D9's order by torturing a GNK power droid with a mechanical smelting device that featured a hot glowing iron." - from Wookiepedia.

I'm really glad I had the time to submit one more entry in the Yakfinities #52: Jabba's Entourage contest over at Yakface.com before it comes to a close.
