"POWER DROID" created by Darth Daddy

Dad repainted the 2012 Droid Set Vintage Collection GNK Droid with a paint application that was inspired by the 1978 Power Droid from the Vintage Star Wars collection.  The sculpts on the figures were completely different, so Dad just tried to repaint the more modern figure with the old blue/orange paint scheme from the earlier figure.  I really liked how Dad's figure came out!

Notable power droid models included the EG-6 power droid produced by Veril Line Systems, the EG-4 found in Echo Base on Hoth, and the GNK power droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton.

Iron-Cow Productions Added to "Customs I Wish I Owned"

Matt ‘Iron-Cow’ Cauley’s background lies in the visual arts. Born in Dallas in the fall of 1973, he eventually relocated to New York to attend Parsons School of Design. Shortly after obtaining his degree in Illustration, he began working for Bloomberg LP as a Broadcast Designer while further developing his illustration and toy design work.

In 1999, Matt formed Iron-Cow Productions, LLC to better serve his illustration, animation, design, and toy production clients.  Matt's work is regularly published and exhibited worldwide. He gained further exposure in the toy design world as a featured contributer to ToyFare Magazine. There are over 50 ICP-designed action figures that have hit the shelves since that time.

Matt eventually relocated the Iron-Cow Studios from New Jersey to New York in February 2013. During this upheaval, Matt decided to take on some small action figure customizing projects here and there until his studio was fully up and running. To keep things simple, he began experimenting with some Vintage Star Wars projects. These were never meant to be anything too complicated: simple headswaps and repaints were all he wanted to do. As luck would have it, nostalgia, combined with fun quickly blossomed into a massive 28 figure endeavor.

This was just the beginning. Matt had such a fun experience with the retro figures that he quickly began work on his next wave of Vintage Star Wars. There are currently over 60 new figure projects in the works that will be unveiled early next year.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT #37: HYPERDRIVE

When it comes to customizing, Hyperdrive is usually known for his signature "weathered and worn" soft goods. Hyperdrive's soft goods work is just amazing!

What many people don't know, is that Hyperdrive has created some customs that have no soft goods work at all involved.   One of these figures can be found in my own collection.  Every holiday season, Customs for the Kid participates in Yakface.com's Secret Santa event in their forums.  Darth Daddy and Hyperdrive were each other's Secret Santa, and Hyperdrive made us a unique droid in the old Vintage style that Dad grew up with.  Both Dad and I were really impressed with this figure.  Dad was most impressed with the sticker that Hyperdrive created on his computer to attach to the torso of the droid.  This figure was a really cool addition to my collection and he is now posed with the complete Vintage Droid Factory playset that I found under my tree this past Christmas.

Originally, we had planned to post this action figure back in January, but Hyperdrive had sent us two packages.  One with the figure and one with the diorama.  Unfortunately, the diorama was lost in the mail for a long time until the box and diorama had been returned by the post office to Hyperdrive's home completely damaged and beyond repair.

Vintage Headswaps

We really liked the new head sculpts on the light up lightsaber Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi so we did a head swap with them so we could use them on my Vintage figures instead.
