"REBEL HOVER CRATES" created by Kyp Durron

The other day we received an email from fellow customizer Kyp Durron who sent us some digital files of "Rebels Hover Crate" Papercraft that he made.

In his email, he stated that he'd like to let us be the first to test them out.

He said he used Paint.net to print out his own set of hover crates, and left the "fit picture to frame" box checked/ticked. This prints the hover crate and accessory page out in 1:18th scale. Files like the propaganda posters, props, and the walls and floors are all supposed to be printed out with the "fit to frame" left OFF.

He made all on-screen versions he was able to find (standard brown/tan, Imperial grey, and Fulcrum Green). Plus he made several custom colors to represent various contents.

The Custom ones are:

Blue = Aquatic foodstuffs and supplies. Like fish, chum, liquids, etc.

White = Medical supplies like Bacta.

Yellow = Hazardous materials like radioactive or bio hazard.

Light Brown = Clothing and linens.

He also made an accessory page that has squares for meilooruns, jogans, pistols, rifles, credits, and spice. This page includes racks that can hold the various pieces much like the racks seen in the first episode. And four extra foot pegs to help give the bottom of the crate definition. Kyp Durron even included a rough draft version of the credit boxes that Vizago, Hondo, and Lando are seen using.

Each of the crates has the option to have a folding top or a removable top and there's an insert for the interior of the crate. He's working on some additions, so the lid to have an insert, as well as designs for other supply accessories.

It's easy to add cardstock (cereal box material) to the crates to strengthen them, but the insert does make them sturdy enough for display purposes.

He hopes you all enjoy these crates, and we'd all love to see them used in some of your dioramas too. Send all your diorama pictures that utilize these crates to customsforthekid@gmail.com so we can put together a nice little video compilation of all the dioramas that were inspired by Kyp Durron's hard work!

*UPDATE

The crates have had their Credit cases updated and the button panel added to make it more 3D.

He even made a new crate using an old WOTC free printout with crates in scale for the Star Wars miniatures. He then scaled it up and made it a single crate instead of the double one the Death Star scanning crew uses.

One page is a Sabacc deck, credits, credit cases, a Djerik Table Top(wip), and some spice for the crates. He used a fan made sabacc deck and scaled each card down. Cut them out, add glue, and fold them over. They're small, but you can tell that which suit they are. And the credit squares can be glued together to cut out individual credits. But these will be really small and easily lost.

There's a page that is a set of Topographic maps from a GI Joe papercraft site. He rescaled them and put them all on one page. I figure these are useful in certain dioramas/displays.

There are a couple of propaganda pages with wanted posters and advertisements. Some are correctly in Aurebesh while some are still in English. He's working on the English ones to make them in Aurebesh.

One page is a set of posters that has the translations on the left side. Another page is shop signs and their translations. The shop signs should probably be scaled up though.

He's even included files for the Yavin Base floors and walls as well as the floor from Hera's home. These are all from the assets and can be used to make diorama's/displays.

He also took the Puffer Pig crate you posted a while back and scaled it to print out in scale with Paint.Net.

His favorite page that he included is the props page. It includes: datapads for both Rebels and Imperials, baby blankets, blue milk cartons, space waffles and plates, Hera's Kalikori (requires skill and patience to assemble), factory ID's in multiple colors, Tooka dolls in multiple colors, credit and gem cases, some Atollon Spider eggs, and a random panel made from the Gonk Droid asset.

CubesCity Customs Added to "Customs I Wish I Owned"

Bryce Cooper aka CubesCity Customs started with purchasing just a few 6" figures 3 years ago, and from there his mild curiosity grew into a full collection. Soon he began seeing customs that others were making and decided he'd give it a go making some of his own customs. Bryce got his name out there with his first big commission project, an old Ben Kenobi. Unfortunately, he later realized that commissions were taking up all his free time, and customizing felt like more like a second job than a hobby. So he stopped taking commissions and focused more on individual customs for himself.

He then met Jason Harrop, and they both realized that they had a real knack for making these custom 6" Star Wars figures. They then formed a relationship where Bryce would supply Jason with soft goods for their projects and Jason would supply him with the head sculpt and later full casting kits. They then decided to form Two Suns 6" Customs to share their work and to help others with their customs giving advice anywhere they could. The Facebook group they formed took off like wildfire!

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT #50: "STAR WARS REBELS" ACTION FIGURE BLEACHER KIT by THANK THE MAKER

Yesterday, we received a surprise package in the mail from our good friend Thank The Maker and we couldn't believe what we found inside the box.  Back in August, we did a feature on Thank The Maker's super cool Action Figure Bleacher Kits.  He painted up a few of the kits to to show how customizable these sets were. All of them were quite stunning, and really showcased what an impressive painter Thank The Maker is.

His Star Wars: Rebels inspired bleacher especially caught our eye.  From the Sabine inspired paint scheme and taggings, to the sleeping quarters of Zeb and Ezra built into the right side of the stand, so much thought and planning went into this amazing work of art.  It's truly incredible. It made a great birthday even better! We loved it so much we spent the rest of the day rearranging all the display shelves in my room just to accommodate it, and boy it was so worth it! The Rebels shelf in my room looks amazing.

The next day we have free, we are going to do an updated video to show everything we have on my shelves so stay tuned!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THANK THE MAKER!

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT "UPDATE": CLONE WARS "BULDUGA & ONCA" created by Peak-OB1 Custom Creations

So, I just had a birthday earlier in the month and Dad surprised me with an out of this world present, Clone Wars custom action figures made by Peak-OB1 Custom Creations from "The Box" episode. We featured a few of the figures on the blog already, but today's feature is all about Onca and Bulduga.

Normally we get our action figures from Peak-OB1 Custom Creations directly, but these particular figures were commissioned by another collector many years ago. That collector recently made the decision to sell off their Star Wars collection and contacted us to see if we'd be interested in purchasing what he had available.  We jumped at the chance to buy these knowing they can't be found anywhere else. We admired them from afar ever since their creation, always wishing they were part of our collection. The paintwork and craftsmanship on these figures are just incredible, and worthy of our previous praise. While we still need a few more of the figures to complete the set, Balduga and Onca might just be my favorites of the bunch.

"Most beings in the galaxy assume that Ithorians are peaceful keepers of gardens and contemplative philosophy. The ones who have stared down the barrels of the bounty hunting brothers Bulduga and Onca beg to differ -- if not busy begging for their lives. While Onca favored heavier rifles, Bulduga preferred the fast-draw blaster. Some who noticed Bulduga's low slung holster, red-lensed goggles and wide-brimmed hat wondered if perhaps Bulduga was a copy-cat, looking to imitate another well-known gunslinger -- but not within earshot of the deadly Ithorian." - Star Wars Databank

"Together with his brother Bulduga, Onca was part of a legendary bounty hunting team. While Bulduga fancied himself a fast-drawing gunslinger, Onca was slower, unable to overcome the bulk of his Ithorian build to snap off shots as quickly as his brother could. Instead, Onca favored firepower over flash or finesse. He often carried more than one blaster rifle at a time, including a sawed-off one." - Star Wars Databank

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES - ANIMATED FIGURES FOR THE VINTAGE COLLECTION

Check out the lists Peak-OB1 and Customs for the Kid were asked to put together for Jedi Temple Archives to share with Hasbro. We were happy that it already reached the eyes of Steve Evans director of design for the Star Wars brand team over at Hasbro.

In a perfect world, the sculpts on these figures would be made so they could pass for animated or realistic. A hybrid, similar to The Clone Wars action figure of Cad Bane that came with TODO-360.

"This list was a blast to do! It's nice to offer some concepts and ideas every once in while! Both Darth Daddy and I left off a bunch of characters.

Here is Peak-OB1's most wanted list:

1.) Bo Katan: We are in a time right now where, like it or not Girls rule! This character is in both Clone Wars and Rebels and everyone loves Mando bounty hunters

2.) Sugi: Once again this character is in Clone Wars and mentioned in the book "Shattered Empire"  where her niece is one of the main characters fly that green gunship around!

3.) Ben Kenobi in Rako Hardeen Disguise: Would be my absolute all time favorite! This is such a great look for him and the first time, he uses the code name Ben!

4.) Ventress Bounty Hunter: or pretty much any Ventress outfit you want to make would be a hit in my mind! She is such a solid character by the end of the show!

5.) Ketsu Onyo: In both Rebels and the new Forces of Destiny. Probably the most elaborate costume I have seen since Hasbro made Cato Parisiti in the toy line.

There's so many more. If just a few of these are produced I'm sure it would make a lot of people happy!

Also Wanted to thank Paul Very much, for letting us work on this list!" - Peak-OB1 Custom Creations

"I really wanted to get the 99 action figure on the list, but we tried to narrow it down to only a certain number of slots and I lost the coin toss ;) I think we need an action figure of a character of his caliber in the line. Imagine what the implications would have been if Domino Squad never made it into the field as their instructors were planning. 99 had a huge impact on The Clone Wars, but we forget his contribution by the end. He also is very relatable to all the Star Wars fans overcoming short term or long term disabilities that rarely feel represented in toy lines.

I think all the figures listed here are significant enough characters to merit a figure and it would be nice to see them made over the coming years.

I like all the interest in this topic because it shows just how much love there is for the animated Star Wars content.

DARTH DADDY's TOP 10 DESIRED "CLONE WARS" FIGURES

1.) Satine Kryze: Any Outfit. Preferably a 3-pack of her in her headdress outfit, pink adventure gear outfit, and the blue outfit she died in. The love interest of Obi-Wan Kenobi NEEDS an action figure. She died in his arms! At Maul's hands. What fan doesn't want to recreate that scene in plastic?

2.) Professor Huyang: Love the idea of a droid lightsaber building instructor who was present when Yoda built his own lightsaber. With David Tenant from Dr.Who voicing the character he is sure to be a good selling figure.

3.) Bo Katan: She is in both Clone Wars and Rebels and features as a major player in both. Viszla’s partner in crime. Plus, she's a Mandalorian and Satine's sister.

4.) Pong Krell: Scariest villain in the entire series, and he’s a Jedi!

5.) Sugi: One of the coolest new bounty hunters we got on the show. I’d love if she came with her ship.

6.) Ziro the Hutt: He was the villain of the theatrical release and a great reoccurring figure throughout the series. He’d look great in a set with Sy Snootles.

7.) Kalani: Love the design of this droid. Plus, he made it into Rebels.

8.) Lux Bonteri: A pretty major character. Lux was the love interest of Ahsoka and they had several adventures together. I’d prefer the Onderaan version for his figure.

9.) Steela Gerrera: The first Rebel leader. Need I say more.

10.) Saw Gerrera: Have to have a companion figure to Steela and Lux. Plus he raises Jyn Erso and is heavily featured in Rogue One.

Other Honorable Mentions: Younglings from Season 5 Ahsoka/Hondo “Gathering” arc, Younglings & Trandoshans from "Padawan Lost", Hondo Gang members, Pune Zignat, C-21 Highsinger, and of course all other figures that actually made our final list.

DARTH DADDY's TOP 10 DESIRED “REBELS” FIGURES

1.) Hondo: One of my favorite Star Wars characters of all-time!

2.) AP-5: The only Ghost crew member to not be made.

3.) Season 3 Ezra Bridger: An updated version of Ezra is a must.

4.) Blind Kanan Jarrus: Another figure we desperately need. It would be cool if the face shield were removable.

5.) Season 3 Sabine Wren: The coolest look Sabine has had on the show so far. Don't forget her Darksaber!

6.) Azmorigan: He'd look awesome in plastic!

7.) Ketsu Onyo: Love the look of the character design.  This character definitely needs a removable helmet.

8.) Lando Calrissian: Love the look of the Rebels Lando.

9.) Cham Syndulla: One of the coolest characters from the animated content and Hera's dad.

10.)  Numa: Another cool nod to The Clone Wars, nothing cooler than seeing Numa all grown up.

Honorable Mentions: Tarkin, Sabine's family, and all other figures that made the final list.

A big thanks to Paul Harrison and Peak-OB1 and for asking me to participate in this!" - Darth Daddy of Customs for the Kid
