The Spectre Added to "Customs I Wish I Owned"

This month for our "Custom I Wish I Owned" feature, we figured we'd introduce you to the army building of talented customizer The Spectre.  Not only does this customizer know how to swell his ranks with style, but he has created the coolest horde of Star Wars space pirates that we have ever seen - complete with ship.

Hailing from northeast New Jersey, The Spectre has deemed himself the President and Founder of the CSOTC (Customize Something Other Than Clones) Society.  It's cool to see what can be accomplished with the old POTF figures because with Hasbro going back to limited articulation in their Star Wars figure line, we need someone like The Spectre to give us hope that customizing won't die out with super articulated figures showing up in only limited amounts.

CAFN: Episode 52 - Darksider80 of Korriban Customs

CAFN had an absolute blast last night talking with Darksider80 of Korriban Customs. They covered quite a few customizing techniques from accessorizing your figures with soft goods to the types of JOE and SW Parts that mesh well. And they even covered some of the recipes and back stories behind some of Darksider80's awesome work.

We're a big fan of this newcomer to the customizing community!  We are lucky enough to have one of his figures in our own collection.  Be sure to listen.  This artist is noteworthy and this interview shouldn't be missed.

COMING SOON

Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy and Sith_fire30 are in the process of creating a YouTube based show that will have a format with a action figure customizing tournament as the focus.  The show will be utilizing Google+ Hangout, as well as, content created by the contest participants that they will upload to Youtube. The show is to be hosted by none other than famous Fangirl Wookielover1138 of the YouTube cult favorite, Kessel Run Review

The show will have six (6) hand-picked contestants participating in our 1st season.  We are keeping participation limited, because of the demand that is required of contestants on top of providing judges “work in progress” and “finished” pictures of their work.

Participants will have to be people who really want to challenge themselves.   In our show, participants will be required to document the production of their work by posting their own content with the assistance of a YouTube based account.  These videos should be tutorial videos that educate viewers on the process that the participants used to create their weekly entries.  The Youtube video content will later be used to compliment “Google+ Hangout” content that will be recorded when the contestants and judges interact in a “video chat” together as a group.  In the end, the production team will edit all the recorded video content together into an episode, including the judging of the entries which will be conducted by Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy and Sith_fire30.

The show will have 5 challenges over the course of the season and players will compete for points until there is 1 winner named at the end of the last challenge.  The contestants will have 10 days (2 weekends) to create their submission after a new theme is introduced.

The idea is to educate fans of the show in regards to the artistic process involved in custom action figure creation and we're hopeful that through this format the talent on hand will get as much exposure as possible. We are currently in the process of building a website for it as it will be an ongoing project with numerous tournaments taking place.

We just wanted to put a feeler out there to see who may be interested in participating in an event like this.  We're thinking we may not have very many applicants due to the demand put on the contestants, so that is why we're keeping the number of participants so low.  This number could increase in future seasons depending on the response we get the first go round.  We'd like to get as many seasons out of this as possible.

All interested parties will have to provide a Youtube link to a video that introduces them to the judges and the audience, as well as, three photos of their best work.

What do you think?

How many of you would be interested in participating in a show like this?

Let us know in our comments section.

RODIAN GIRL by ELIAS

So here at home, we're still busy with the "Smuggler's Gambit" Custom Action Figure Contest that we are promoting with RebelForce Radio.  We have already received some really cool entires and we're hoping with the extended deadline of May 1st, 2013, that even more awesomeness is still on its way.  For any of you who listened to the radio drama you know that Han Solo and Chewbacca visited a village and bar while on Abrossos VI.  That means participants can enter the contest with a cantina alien custom action figure, or just an ordinary citizen that Han Solo and Chewbacca passed on their way to the local bar.  A miner that lives in the settlements on the planet.

Notice that nowhere in the rules does the contest say that it has to be a "brand new" custom.  If you made a custom years ago that you feel can fit within the "Smuggler's Gambit"story just enter it.  It only takes a few seconds to email a few pictures.  Especially if you have already photographed it.

I love this Rodian girl that I created because she can be comfortable fitting into a lot of Star Wars dioramas.  She fits in a Tatooine street scene, as a dancer for Jabba or some other Hutt.   She looks great in a cantina scene too.  Heck if you threw a Jedi robe on her and put a lightsaber in her hand she can be a Jedi.  Do you have any customs like these that you'd like to submit to the contest?  Let's see what you've made.  Send us an entry!
