Now Dayton Allen aka Sith_fire30 is always the first name you will hear out of pretty much every customizer's mouth when you ask them who's the best Star Wars customizer out there today, and I will second that statement without any hesitation. Dayton has definitely influenced me more than any other artist I've come across since I became part of the community. If it weren't for Dayton, I don't think I ever would have started sculpting.

His sculpt work and his paint applications are downright phenomenal, and his talents have already earned him some serious recognition. Sith_fire30 is one of the few customizing artists to ever appear within the pages of Star Wars Insider (Issue 121). Sith_fire30 was also chosen as one of the customizers asked to host the first ever Star Wars Custom Action Figure Panel at Star Wars Celebration VI, alongside artists Sillof and Luke Sprywalker.

Sith_fire30 has taken the bar and raised it so high, I just can't see any artist surpassing what he has accomplished. He is constantly adding new techniques to his toolbox enhancing his art.  Just take a look at the image of the Savage Opress below. The entire figure has little magnets inserted into the body at different points throughout the figure, all hidden, drilled into place, and sculpted over. He also sculpted magnets into Savage's armor so the it just clings to the body when it's brought near.

Genius!

Dayton creates the ultimate editions of our favorite characters complete with alternate head sculpts and armor with battle damage, consistently creating the most ideal figure for every situation. And the best part about Sith_fire30 is that he knows how to keep the action in the figure. He gives all of his action figures super-articulation. His figures have silenced even the harshest of critics. He has taken action figure art beyond where we ever dreamed it could go. It's just amazing how he fits in all the detail and articulation in a 3 3/4" scale action figure.

This talented customizer and diorama builder also writes a super informative blog that takes you step by step through his creative process while also providing great educational bits like his wonderful eye painting tutorialSith_fire30 has one of the best custom action figure blogs out there. His video tutorials on Youtube detailing how to do molding and casting were absolutely priceless when I began to teach myself those techniques at home.  He hasn't been posting on his blog quite as often as he used to, but he is always updating his Facebook page with the latest progress on his current projects.

Unfortunately it has been a while since Dayton has created any new Star Wars offerings due to being tied up with his current projects, but if you are a fan of the Alien franchise, head to his Flickr page now. His latest work is even more mind-blowing than his older projects.

"BEEDO" created by Darth Daddy

This action figure creation was a pretty easy to make.  I just grabbed a super articulated Greedo action figure and dressed it up with a repainted vest of a Vintage Hoth Leia that had it's collar modified to be a bit taller and thicker with the assistance of a little Green Stuff.  With Toryn Farr being released in Wave 5 of The Black Series this June, making a Beedo will be even easier with the use of her vest instead.  Just another quick an easy custom to diversify your Jabba diorama.

Beedo is one of two identical Rodians visible in the throne room of Jabba's palace. Beedo was a Rodian bounty hunter in the employ of Jabba the Hutt. He was a member of the Tetsu Clan and a cousin of Greedo

Rebels Customs Event Winding Down

rebels2

The fan community was recently exposed to Hasbro’s upcoming Rebels line, which has been met with mixed results as so many of us prefer good articulation and more detailed sculpts with the Star Wars lines rather than what Hasbro revealed.

Soon after, Yakface.com teamed up with Imperialshipyards.net to host a customizing event where fans can make their own Rebels themed customs and have a chance to win some cool prizes.  While the number of entries has been somewhat modest thus far, the quality has been fantastic.

To check out the latest entries,  click here – and remember, entries will be accepted until the end of April.

Like most children of the 70's I-AM-BOBA-FETT was blown away by Star Wars when he saw it in the theater in 1977. Even as a very young boy he knew this movie was special and was more than just a summer Saturday night's entertainment. Star Wars has continued to be a part of I-AM-BOBA-FETT's life all the way through to the present. He began customizing figures at the age of five. I-AM-BOBA-FETT began sculpting in 1999 as a way to alleviate boredom and stress. He has continued to make custom figures, vehicles, and full scale life size props for over 25 years now for fun and profit.  He even created his own complete suit of hand forged Mandalorian armor, jetpack, and helmet made of stainless steel!

I-AM BOBA-FETT takes commission work. For those looking to have an awesome custom item made give him a shout. He offers fair prices and quick build times for his custom creations. He can be reached at: riffvalleydesignworks@yahoo.com.

I've bought several headcasts from this artist, and some figures as well.  Buy with confidence!

"CLONE WARS CHANCELLOR PALPATINE" created by Elias

Recently Dad was asked to do a commission of a Clone Wars Chancellor Palpatine.  Dad currently doesn't take on any commissions, but Dad thought that maybe I was capable of making the figure if I decided I wanted to give it a try. At the time I backed out of the commission feeling way too intimidated, but I still wanted to see if it was something I could do.

I used the body from the "Attack of the Clones" Palpatine with head and neck casts of the Clone Wars Darth Sidious without his hood on. Because Dad had molded the head, I didn't have to be afraid of ruining it if my sculpted hair didn't turn out well.  If I messed up, I could just make another.

Cool thing is, I got it right on my first try and got this figure done in just 4 hours!

I'm so glad that I just jumped right back into sculpting. Completing a second sculpting project, less than a week from finishing my first sculpt, really solidified my confidence in myself as a sculptor after observing such successful results.

My custom Clone Wars Chancellor Palpatine was featured in Yakface.com's "Customizer Mega Spotlight!" I was super excited.  This was the biggest honor I ever could have received as a customizer!
