DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: BRANDON JACKSON

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars custom action figure artist Brandon Jackson in his latest post over at The Star Wars Underworld.

Although Brandon Jackson will tell you that he still considers himself to be a noob when it comes to customizing, everyone else will tell you that he's way too hard on himself. Truth is Brandon is super talented.

Brandon Jackson hails from Los Angeles California, and has been serving in the military for 18 and a half years.  He has loved Star Wars as long as he can remember and he has collected Star Wars throughout most of his childhood. Although he stopped collecting for many years, he got back into collecting in 2012. He now has a pretty large Star Wars collection and 1:6 Scale figures are his main focus. At the point when he started customizing he pretty much owned almost every Sideshow Collectible 1:6 scale figure that they made. He got into 1:6 costumizing because there were so many characters from Star Wars he loved, but no company made in 1:6 scale.

He joined a group on Facebook called One Sixth Republic ran by the creator Mark OSR. There he saw so many people from all over the country, kitbashing and customizing figures, that it made him want to create some of his own figures. He had never done anything artistic before, but Brandon wanted to give it a try. So earlier this year he did his first custom, a 1:6 scale figure he called Agent 47 - Mandalorian Bounty Hunter. He used the Agent 47 headsculpt from the awesome videogame series Hitman and custom painted a 12 inch Hasbro Jango Fett. At the time, he felt like he had no idea what he was doing until he posted it up on Facebook, and everyone loved it.

Shortly after that he got into painting head sculpts. Brandon uses brushes to paint his figures, but he hopes to start airbrushing in the near future. As far as supplies go, he uses a variety of different paints, mainly acrylic paints, but he stresses the importance of using the right brushes. He'll admit that he was a little cheap when he first started painting, but he later invested in better equipment and supplies.

He also recommends using a head set magnifier with a light. It really helps when doing the eyes.  Brandon says his two biggest challenges are painting the eyes and sewing. All customizing artists will tell you that the eyes are the most important and also the most challenging.

When it comes to sewing the soft goods, Brandon's lucky to have a wonderful and supportive wife that not only supports his hobby but she also sews very well and has been showing him how to make some really killer threads for his custom figures.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: HALCION

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars custom action figure artist HALCION in his latest post over at The Star Wars Underworld.

6" "THE FORCE AWAKENS" STORMTROOPER created by HALCION

Last week, I introduced you all to Star Wars customs action figures inspired by the recent teaser we were all privy to the day after Thanksgiving. I had several artists on display for that feature and one artist really caught my eye.  I have only recently been introduced to his work, but HALCION has been cranking out projects at lightning speed.  I'm really impressed with what he has been putting together in the 6" scale, especially his vehicles.

Brandon Flores aka HALCION was born in Los Angeles in 1974. His late father Fernando Flores was a well known fashion illustrator who had a huge passion for toys and film, particularly Star Wars. At around 5 years old Brandon started getting curious, digging through his fathers art supplies, he discovered the X-acto blade and screwdriver, two tools that sent him spiraling out of control! He began taking apart all his toys and reassembling them into new creations. Brandon has not stopped making toys since then. He is not only limited to toy design, he also is a graphic artist, painter, and clothing designer with a huge passion for underground music and sound exploration.  His most recent works combine full scratch built vehicles, and dioramas with completely original parts adding his vision to the toys and the Star Wars universe.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: RUNDOWN

Rundown Customs first exposure to Star Wars custom action figures was when he was on ebay buying and selling vintage Star Wars toys. When he came across them, he was very interested in what he saw. He started his research with watching other customizers to see what they were doing for a long time before he made an action figure himself.  He definitely did his research. He picked up a paintbrush in 2007 and since then Rundown has made over 300 custom action figures; more than 200 of which have been private commissions. Rundown says that he truly enjoys the hobby and will take requests to produce characters not yet made in toy form.  He has a lot of customs available on his eBay page right now if you like what you see and want to add one of his figures to your collection,

To buy custom action figures created by Rundown visit his ebay page where you can also contact him about commission work.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: PULPY FICTION

Pulpy Fiction from Brantford, Ontario has a signature style when it comes to customizing his 6" Star Wars custom action figures. He was at it before Hasbro was even considering making their 6" Black Series toy line modifying and sculpting onto the Marvel Legend figures.  His work looks as if it just jumped off the page of a beautiful comic book. He is remarkably skilled. This is an artist you will want to watch. Not only can he paint his awesome creations with great precision but he can create tailor made soft goods to dress them in. His sculpts of Chewbacca and Boba Fett are just jaw dropping and his photos look like they could adorn the cover of an old pulp novel. If his future projects look as eye catching as these figures, we have one very cool journey ahead of us. He still has many projects on the way, and I mean MANY.
