CUSTOMS FOR THE KID appearing at STAR WARS SPECTACULAR in NJ TODAY!

To all our fans in the Woodbridge, NJ area, Customs for the Kid will be attending Star Wars Spectacular in Woodbridge, NJ today. Darth Daddy and Elias will be there with an assortment of customs created by Customs for the Kid, as well as several other customizers featured on the blog's Customizer Spotlight. Information on the "Smuggler's Gambit" Custom Action Figure Contest will be on hand and we'll be having a raffle where the prize will be a Customs for the Kid custom action figure. Stop by, we'd love to meet you.

Other artist's work being featured at our table will be custom action figures found on our Customizer Spotlight page. There will be custom Star Wars action figures created by: Luke Sprywalker, Hangarbay94, Stronox, Peakob1, Lucasclones, Wraithnine, Sillof, Chewie, and many more artist's work on display. It's a chance to see some signature pieces from our collection in person. We realize that not everyone can make it, so we'll do our best to document the event.  We will be playing Dad's Celebration 6: Custom Action Figure Panel Commemorative Video to make sure we expose attendees of the event to as many different artists as we can while we are there. If your work was in that video it will be on display for this day's event. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Celebration VI:
Star Wars Customizing Action Figure Panel
Commemorative Video
 created by Darth Daddy

This is a video featuring the custom artwork of several of the artists that have allowed us to display their work here on our blog.  We would have loved to display the work of countless other artists, but because we did not have the time to ask their permission, their work sadly does not appear in the video. When we first started CFTK, we developed a customizer directory where we provide our audience with a way to see work of the artists we help to promote, as well as video montages of their creations.

COMING SOON

Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy and Sith_fire30 are in the process of creating a YouTube based show that will have a format with a action figure customizing tournament as the focus.  The show will be utilizing Google+ Hangout, as well as, content created by the contest participants that they will upload to Youtube. The show is to be hosted by none other than famous Fangirl Wookielover1138 of the YouTube cult favorite, Kessel Run Review

The show will have six (6) hand-picked contestants participating in our 1st season.  We are keeping participation limited, because of the demand that is required of contestants on top of providing judges “work in progress” and “finished” pictures of their work.

Participants will have to be people who really want to challenge themselves.   In our show, participants will be required to document the production of their work by posting their own content with the assistance of a YouTube based account.  These videos should be tutorial videos that educate viewers on the process that the participants used to create their weekly entries.  The Youtube video content will later be used to compliment “Google+ Hangout” content that will be recorded when the contestants and judges interact in a “video chat” together as a group.  In the end, the production team will edit all the recorded video content together into an episode, including the judging of the entries which will be conducted by Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy and Sith_fire30.

The show will have 5 challenges over the course of the season and players will compete for points until there is 1 winner named at the end of the last challenge.  The contestants will have 10 days (2 weekends) to create their submission after a new theme is introduced.

The idea is to educate fans of the show in regards to the artistic process involved in custom action figure creation and we're hopeful that through this format the talent on hand will get as much exposure as possible. We are currently in the process of building a website for it as it will be an ongoing project with numerous tournaments taking place.

We just wanted to put a feeler out there to see who may be interested in participating in an event like this.  We're thinking we may not have very many applicants due to the demand put on the contestants, so that is why we're keeping the number of participants so low.  This number could increase in future seasons depending on the response we get the first go round.  We'd like to get as many seasons out of this as possible.

All interested parties will have to provide a Youtube link to a video that introduces them to the judges and the audience, as well as, three photos of their best work.

What do you think?

How many of you would be interested in participating in a show like this?

Let us know in our comments section.

CAFN: Episode 48 - Black Lights!

CAFN: Episode 48 - Black Lights!

Well CAFN planned on having a lighting roundtable and while they apologize for that not happening, they were able to discuss a few interesting UV and glow paint techniques thanks to Clonehead. Of course they had to unload about the new 6-inch line announced by Hasbro.  CAFN wants to thank Clonehead, Luke Sprywalker, and later SpookyMufu for checking in to give us their views on this new announcement. And stay tuned folks, CAFN is not giving up on bringing you a dedicated podcast on how to light up your stuff!

If you haven't seen the brand new and improved CAFN Page yet, be sure to give it a look.

DAD's SECRET SANTA GIFT for LUKE SPRYWALKER

"SECRET SANTA MANDO"
created by Darth Daddy

Well Dad finally finished the last Secret Santa that he had to make for the event he was coordinating at Imperial Shipyards and shipped it off to Luke Sprywalker.  Dad knew that Luke Sprywalker was on a Mandalorian kick and Dad wanted to send him a unique Mandalorian to replace the one Luke Sprywalker sent me for my Secret Santa.  Dad modified and resculpted the head of AOTC Orn Free Taa and mounted it on the body of a Legacy Rancor keeper.  Dad used the upper arms and lower legs of a Yaarna d'al' Gargan to make the arms for this figure.  Dad said he modified Yaarna's calves to look like the arms of an old Italian woman.  He used the upper legs of Yaarna for his custom as well, and attached them to a severely modified Apoxie Sculpt creation that used the lower torso of the Rancor Keeper as a base.  Dad kept the boots of the Rancor Keeper for his figure's lower legs.  The hands of the Orn Free Taa were modified so they would swivel.  By the time Dad finished the figure, I wanted it.  Dad went crazy with the picture taking on this one, so instead of posting a few pics like we normally do, Dad made a video.  We still have more Secret Santa customs that we received to post so be sure to check back later this week to see them when they are up for all to see.

The helmet was made from two helmets of a CW Heavy action figure, the top part of the Rancor Keepers weapon and the strap harness that comes with the G.I. Joe Zombie Viper.  The horns were from an AOTC Mas Amedda.

To make the shoulder armor, Dad created a skeleton from a Chewbacca waist piece that was cut into small sections dremeled down and sculpted over to get a hairy look.  He then used modified removable Mando armor of a Jango Fett to make the chest piece and stomach armor that he attched to the figure.  The soft goods Dad used were left over from the Clone Wars custom he made of Mother Talzin.

He kept all the accessories removable and included a Greedo soft goods vest as an alternate outfit for when the action figure was not all suited up.  Dad knew Luke Sprywalker sometimes made his figures with alternate looks so Dad thought it would be a fun touch.

Dad created the jetpack with Apoxie Sculpt and a defective cast of CW Death Watch Mando jetpack that he got for free from SithHappensDad crated the jetpack so the unidentified gun could attach to the jetpack.  The missle was from the battle axe of a CW Savage Opress.  The jetpack attaches with a magnet that Dad concealed with Apoxie Sculpt under the hairy shoulder pads.

The alternate gun was from CW Heavy and the gun that attached to the jetpack was from some G.I. Joe fodder that we had.
