"CUSTOMIZING THE CLONE WARS" - EPISODE 65
Friday, January 8, 2016
"Medcha Wanto" created by Darth Daddy
After a very warm December, it finally feels as if winter has arrived. We had one of our first snowfalls here at home, and we felt that now would be the perfect time to post an action figure that fit the frigid temperatures we are beginning to experience.
In The Clone Wars first season episode Trespass, Anakin and Obi-Wan were caught in the middle of an escalating conflict between the furry territorial inhabitants of a desolate ice world and the greedy representatives of a nearby moon while investigating the disappearance of a clone security force. The Talz species was first introduced in A New Hope in the iconic Cantina bar scene with the character of bar patron Muftak. We loved that this species was brought back for an educational episode about the perils of advocating ethnocentrism. So much so, that we wanted to pay tribute to the episode by immortalizing one of the Talz characters in plastic.
Medcha Wanto was a Talz who was scribe to the Talz chieftain Thi-Sen. Hasbro produced an action figure of Thi-Sen that was one of the best figures we got from The Clone Wars action figure line. With removable accessories, the action figure gave consumers the ability to army build all the Talz warriors that they liked.
Good friend and Star Wars customizer, Peak-OB1 had the brilliant idea of adding accessories to the base figure to create the Medcha Wanto action figure. To do so he fabricated a headdress and removable clothing to create the character. We really admired his brilliance, and were very thankful when he let us borrow his sculpted headdress to mold and cast to make one of our own. The casting process wasn't perfect (air bubbles are the enemy) so I had to make a few adjustments to his original sculpt to repair the cast that was made. After that I made a sculpt of his clothing and parchment from Green stuff to complete the figure. Like Peak-OB1 Custom Creations, I made the accessories removable. We really liked how the figure came out!

Star Wars Celebration Anaheim - Action Figure Customizing Panel Video Presentation & Commemorative Video
Big thanks to swnut77.com for posting this video. It's the first one we found so far.
Sillof provided the audience with an introduction to the hobby, and explained the different types of customs that exist. He gave a brief overview of how custom action figures are made, how to disassemble and reassemble action figures, sculpting help, paint tips, as well as information on molding and casting. Other topics covered were 3-D printing, as well as the supplies and resources that Star Wars custom action figure artists utilize in their step-by-step process.
Six artists were featured: PeakOB1, Sillof, Sith_fire30, Chewie, and Customs for the Kid aka Darth Daddy & Elias. It's was a huge honor for us to be included in the featured artists at this year's panel.
The Panel had some of the best Celebration exclusives available, random giveaways of Star Wars custom action figures created by the featured artists. This was one panel you didn't want to miss.
The event was sponsored by Aves and Sculpey.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: CELEBRATION ANAHEIM - ACTION FIGURE CUSTOMIZING PANEL
So if you all have been wondering why I haven't posted in a while, it is because I have been working on developing content for the upcoming Action Figure Customizing Panel being held at Celebration Anaheim. It is only the second time ever that this panel is being presented at a Star Wars Celebration. The first time was at Celebration VI. Jamie Follis aka Sillof will be hosting the event once more on Friday, April 17th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on the Collector's Stage 210AB.
Sillof will provide the audience with an introduction to the hobby, and explain the different types of customs that exist. He'll even give a brief overview of how custom action figures are made, how to disassemble and reassemble action figures, sculpting help, paint tips, as well as information on molding and casting. Other topics covered will be 3-D printing, as well as the supplies and resources that Star Wars custom action figure artists utilize in their step-by-step process.
There will also be a customizer showcase featuring some of the most talented Star Wars customizers in the hobby today. The five artists being featured are: PeakOB1, Sillof, Sith_fire30, Chewie, and me, Darth Daddy. It's a huge honor for me to be one of the featured artists at this year's panel. Unfortunately, I will not be attending Celebration, but I'm glad I will still have some kind of presence at the event. The Panel will also have the best Celebration exclusives available, random giveaways of Star Wars custom action figures created by the featured artists. This is one panel you don't want to miss.
The event will be sponsored by Aves and Sculpey. Also be on the lookout for Sillof at the Diorama Workshop located at the Hasbro booth where he will be teaching classes on how to build Star Wars custom action figures. Class participation is limited so be sure to sign up as soon as you get to Celebration so you don't miss your chance to be taught by one of the masters.

Last Celebration more than half of the people who were waiting on line for the Action Figure Customizing Panel had to be turned away once the room filled to capacity. so if you want to get one of these exclusive items, you better get on line for the panel early. It's a must see event! Be there on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Collector's Stage 210AB.

CUSTOM ACTION FIGURE NEWS #70: Peakob1 Custom Creations
Custom Action Figures News just debuted their new video format in their latest interview with customizer Chad Peak aka Peakob1 of Peakob1 Custom Creations. Definitely take the time to watch Lucasclones and Tamer talk about Peakob1's artwork, and you may even learn a new customizing technique or two. Chad Peak has been a close friend of Customs for the Kid for many years. We have over 34 Star Wars custom action figures of his in our collection, many of which were featured in this episode. We wouldn't be surprised if that number continued to grow. It's nice to hear how Peakob1 built all these masterpieces and get to see all his figures up on screen as they are being discussed. We love the new format guys and we're sure you will to.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: PEAKOB1 - RUMI PARAMITA (THE CLONE WARS - SEASON 2: EPISODE 17 "BOUNTY HUNTERS")
Here at home, one of our favorite episodes of The Clone Wars is "Bounty Hunters" from Season 2. The episode is based on Akira Kurosawa's classic film "Seven Samurai" and it did a wonderful job paying tribute to one of the masters. I'm a huge cinefile, and I collect movies the way Elias collects Star Wars toys so the "Bounty Hunters" episode will always have a special place in my heart. This episode was really exciting for me as a Kurosawa fan. I've acquired almost all of his films over the last decade and a half while working to complete my library of Criterion Collection releases. To have an episode of The Clone Wars that not only featured Hondo Ohnaka, my favorite Clone Wars character, but also paid tribute to one of my favorite directors of all-time was a real treat.
As I watched the episode for the first time, I secretly hoped that Hasbro would one day release a Battle Pack of the infamous "Seven Samurai" crew from The Clone Wars. As I saw plans for Embo and Seripas to be released, I started to get really excited that Sugi and Rumi Paramita may not be far behind. Unfortunately, they never were produced. While Hasbro did end up producing 5 of the 7, Sugi and Rumi never made it to store pegs. Rumi Paramita's fate probably had a lot to do with Hasbro's decision on whether or not to produce the toy, but we always felt that Hasbro made a huge mistake not making Sugi, since she had such an enormous fan following. Their absence left us feeling like we had an enormous hole in our collection that we desperately wanted to fill.
Peakob1 was so successful creating a version of Sugi for himself, that a few months ago I commissioned him to make Elias one too. The results were beautiful. Peakob1 is definitely one of the most skilled customizers out there today. Once Sugi was in hand and posed on Elias' Clone Wars shelf, I decided to get the materials to make Rumi too. Peakob1 and I spend a lot of time on the phone talking Star Wars together, and when I mentioned that I was planning to make a Rumi, he volunteered to take on the project. Since he did such a wonderful job on Sugi, and I am already swamped with all the projects I already have started, I felt like it was a great idea. Was it ever!
With Hondo's Pirate Gang already created, I can now say that we finally have a completed set of action figures from The Clone Wars "Bounty Hunters" episode, and I can't tell you what a great feeling that is. Thank you, Peakob1 for helping to make our dream a reality!
