DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: HALCION

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars custom action figure artist HALCION in his latest post over at The Star Wars Underworld.

6" "THE FORCE AWAKENS" STORMTROOPER created by HALCION

Last week, I introduced you all to Star Wars customs action figures inspired by the recent teaser we were all privy to the day after Thanksgiving. I had several artists on display for that feature and one artist really caught my eye.  I have only recently been introduced to his work, but HALCION has been cranking out projects at lightning speed.  I'm really impressed with what he has been putting together in the 6" scale, especially his vehicles.

Brandon Flores aka HALCION was born in Los Angeles in 1974. His late father Fernando Flores was a well known fashion illustrator who had a huge passion for toys and film, particularly Star Wars. At around 5 years old Brandon started getting curious, digging through his fathers art supplies, he discovered the X-acto blade and screwdriver, two tools that sent him spiraling out of control! He began taking apart all his toys and reassembling them into new creations. Brandon has not stopped making toys since then. He is not only limited to toy design, he also is a graphic artist, painter, and clothing designer with a huge passion for underground music and sound exploration.  His most recent works combine full scratch built vehicles, and dioramas with completely original parts adding his vision to the toys and the Star Wars universe.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: THE FORCE AWAKENS

"Star Wars:The Force Awakens" - Desert Speeder Bike with Rey
created by Chris Hooton aka Sabretooth

By now, I assume that most of you have seen the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" teaser that was released last Friday.  Already Star Wars customizers have created some really awesome toys from the small number of scenes we we were able to view.

Last week, I showcased two such customs created by the artist Rundown who made a "Jedi Luke Skywalker" and "Robot Arm Chewbacca" based on information released in rumored plot leaks around the web.

While searching for more customs from The Force Awakens, I found another Luke Skywalker custom action figure for sale on eBay. This one was made my echo3customs. I've been really enjoying the different versions of Luke Skywalker looking as he would thirty years in the future. He's been the character I've seen made the most since the movie was announced. The variations on him are endless.

Right after I finished putting this feature together I saw that my friend in the UK, Colin Hobbs made a cool custom action figure of the X-wing pilot we saw in the trailer.  Colin had taken a short break from customizing Star Wars figures, so I was really excited to see this prolific artist back at it.

My favorite custom from the new teaser has to be Chris Hooton's Speeder Bike. Completely hand crafted, this stunning piece has very nicely done paint applications complete with a very cool action figure of Daisy Ridley's character in the film.  I'd love to own this piece!

All of you that are fortunate enough to own a 3D printer are truly lucky today. Artist lilykill has posted a free 3D print file so that you can make your very own BB-8 Droid.  Just print it out and add paint.  I really wish I had a 3D printer right now!

Customizer Brandon Flores aka HALCION also made impressive versions of the Speeder Bike with Rey, as well as the BB-8 Droid too.  He even did a 6" version of the Sith revealed in the trailer.  I was really excited to get a glimpse of these new elements being introduced to the Star Wars universe and even more excited to see my peers hard at work bringing the images we viewed to life in plastic.

The last figure I'll put on display is Joshua Todd Jensen's Sith sporting a new lightsaber design that has been getting mixed reactions from fans.  I'm curious to see how the lightsaber is used in combat.  Until then, I'll save my judgment.

What excites me most is that we still have a trailer that is yet to be released, as well as a new Star Wars installment right behind it!  I can't wait to see what cool things customizers make between now and then.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: "Garazeb Orrelios aka Zeb" custom articulated action figure created by SWK KUSTOMS

I was really impressed with the Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger customs that we received from SWK Kustoms.  So much so that when I saw that he posted a "Zeb aka Garazeb Orrelios" action figure with ball jointed elbows, knees and ankles, as well as the inclusion of swivel wrists, I just had to grab it. The figure was well worth the expense of having to make it myself.  The joints SWK Kustoms added are seamless and strong.  These are very well engineered figures.  While, the custom figures that he has made do lack ball jointed shoulders, even I will admit as a seasoned customizer myself, that even I would forgo the modification.  It would be more trouble than it was worth.  Almost all of us complained about the 5 points of articulation in the Rebels line that Hasbro was releasing, so it's nice to know that there are customizers out there providing the articulation that we all desire to give our figures more pose-ability for play.

With around 300 customs under his belt, SWK Kustoms specializes in fully articulated figures! SWK Kustoms creates fully articulated and detailed Custom 4” figures. Star Wars, Star Trek, DC, Marvel or anything you can think of. With SWK you can also become your favorite character as well: Jedi, Sith, Storm trooper, Mandalorian and much more. Figures can be purchased upon request. Price is based on how hard the piece is to make, usually between $50-150. All figures come with specialized weapons or gear & name plate stands.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: RUNDOWN

Rundown Customs first exposure to Star Wars custom action figures was when he was on ebay buying and selling vintage Star Wars toys. When he came across them, he was very interested in what he saw. He started his research with watching other customizers to see what they were doing for a long time before he made an action figure himself.  He definitely did his research. He picked up a paintbrush in 2007 and since then Rundown has made over 300 custom action figures; more than 200 of which have been private commissions. Rundown says that he truly enjoys the hobby and will take requests to produce characters not yet made in toy form.  He has a lot of customs available on his eBay page right now if you like what you see and want to add one of his figures to your collection,
