CUSTOM ACTION FIGURE NEWS #70: Peakob1 Custom Creations

Custom Action Figures News just debuted their new video format in their latest interview with customizer Chad Peak aka Peakob1 of Peakob1 Custom Creations.  Definitely take the time to watch Lucasclones and Tamer talk about Peakob1's artwork, and you may even learn a new customizing technique or two. Chad Peak has been a close friend of Customs for the Kid for many years.  We have over 34 Star Wars custom action figures of his in our collection, many of which were featured in this episode.  We wouldn't be surprised if that number continued to grow.  It's nice to hear how Peakob1 built all these masterpieces and get to see all his figures up on screen as they are being discussed.  We love the new format guys and we're sure you will to.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: PEAKOB1 - RUMI PARAMITA (THE CLONE WARS - SEASON 2: EPISODE 17 "BOUNTY HUNTERS")

Here at home, one of our favorite episodes of The Clone Wars  is "Bounty Hunters"  from Season 2.  The episode is based on Akira Kurosawa's classic film "Seven Samurai" and it did a wonderful job paying tribute to one of the masters.  I'm a huge cinefile, and I collect movies the way Elias collects Star Wars toys so the "Bounty Hunters"  episode will always have a special place in my heart.  This episode was really exciting for me as a Kurosawa fan.  I've acquired almost all of his films over the last decade and a half while working to complete my library of Criterion Collection releases.  To have an episode of The Clone Wars  that not only featured Hondo Ohnaka, my favorite Clone Wars  character, but also paid tribute to one of my favorite directors of all-time was a real treat.

As I watched the episode for the first time, I secretly hoped that Hasbro would one day release a Battle Pack of the infamous "Seven Samurai" crew from The Clone Wars.  As I saw plans for Embo and Seripas to be released, I started to get really excited that Sugi and Rumi Paramita may not be far behind.  Unfortunately, they never were produced.  While Hasbro did end up producing 5 of the 7, Sugi and Rumi never made it to store pegs.  Rumi Paramita's fate probably had a lot to do with Hasbro's decision on whether or not to produce the toy, but we always felt that Hasbro made a huge mistake not making Sugi, since she had such an enormous fan following.  Their absence left us feeling like we had an enormous hole in our collection that we desperately wanted to fill.

Peakob1 was so successful creating a version of Sugi for himself, that a few months ago I commissioned him to make Elias one too.  The results were beautiful.  Peakob1 is definitely one of the most skilled customizers out there today.  Once Sugi was in hand and posed on Elias' Clone Wars shelf, I decided to get the materials to make Rumi too.  Peakob1 and I spend a lot of time on the phone talking Star Wars together, and when I mentioned that I was planning to make a Rumi, he volunteered to take on the project.  Since he did such a wonderful job on Sugi, and I am already swamped with all the projects I already have started, I felt like it was a great idea.  Was it ever!

With Hondo's Pirate Gang already created, I can now say that we finally have a completed set of action figures from The Clone Wars "Bounty Hunters" episode, and I can't tell you what a great feeling that is.  Thank you, Peakob1 for helping to make our dream a reality!

"CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT" UPDATED: Peakob1 - "SUGI" Custom Action Figure

For the last few years, I have been working together with Star Wars customizer Peakob1, as well as a few others to create Elias an incredibly unique Clone Wars action figure collection. So far, his bookshelf currently features a lot of fan-favorite characters that were not released by Hasbro in their Clone Wars action figure line before it was discontinued last year.  Many fans were disappointed when the line ended and a lot of the characters we grew to love over the years were never released as action figures.  Even though we won't be seeing any future episodes or toys from the show, the Customs for the Kid blog will still be showing you all the coolest Clone Wars creations out there today as we add to the collection.

Peakob1's latest masterpiece is his Clone Wars "Sugi" action figure.  This beautifully sculpted work of art is complimented with a gorgeous paint application.  I own a lot of custom action figures by Peakob1 and this action figure is by far one of his all-time best creations.

This is a bounty hunter action figure I think we all would have wanted in our collections, and I can easily see her being heavily requested on Fan's Choice lists for years to come.  If she ever does get a release by Hasbro, it needs to come with her ship!

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: Peakob1

So we do have a new figure and a new artist that we will be showing for our Customizer Spotlight, but due to some shipping issues, we don't think we will have a new artist to show until at least February.  We do have the figure in hand already, but the diorama that the figure was to be displayed with is currently missing in action.  So to hold you all over, we have a few more Star Wars custom action figures that we recently acquired to provide an ample distraction until all shipments have arrived.  These figures were created by Peakob1 Custom Creations.  We have more custom action figures made by this artist than any other customizer and for good reason too. Peakob1 (peek-O-B-One) figures are just plain awesome!

This time around we added his Clone Wars Trandoshan Hunter and Sai' Torr Kal Fas from the Mos Eisley Cantina scene.  I couldn't be happier with the new additions to my collection.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: PeakOB1

Darth Daddy's Customizing Corner featured Star Wars artist Peakob1 in the latest Customizing Corner over at The Star Wars Underworld.

Knowing that there are a lot of Clone Wars fans that visit The Star Wars Underworld, I thought that our next featured artist would be a welcome addition for this week's showcase. PeakOB1 (peek-O-B-One) has been a Star Wars fan all his life. He makes customs for the love of the hobby and you won't find a more dedicated fan. He started customizing in '95, and as far as our collection at home goes, we have more Star Wars custom action figures made by PeakOB1 than by any other artist. So many that I've lost count.

While I have a few OTC, Shadows of the Empire and Droids custom figures that he made, the bulk of the figures I own by this artist are Clone Wars custom action figures.  He has created so many characters from the show that I wish had been released by Hasbro.  PeakOB1 has developed into one of my closest friends in the community, and for the last few years we have been working together to make an incredibly cool Clone Wars collection for my little guy. Peakob1 is also one of the few artists that I have collaborated with on a project.  The Clone Wars Hondo Ohnaka Pirate Gang we created together still gets honorable mention in customizing circles.  There are very few Clone Wars custom action figure artists in the community and this artist has released some of the most noteworthy additions to the line up.   If you are a fan of The Clone Wars then his action figures are a must see!

PeakOB1's earliest work is unique compared to most other customizers in that he uses his own style of making figures that he refers to as "hard sculpting"; gluing plastic pieces to a figure and then sanding them into a desired form as opposed to using sculpy to mold his own figures. He uses bits of existing parts and then Dremels them down to make a new result. He believes that it makes for a much stronger figure because he's a little like Jar Jar, "hesa clumsy" and often drops figures. Thankfully they don't break because he builds them properly.  Within the last year and a half, PeakOB1 has started to use Aves Fixit to create his figures and the results have been mind blowing!

What I appreciate about this artist is his signature paint technique.  As soon as you see one of his figures, you know he was the one who made it.  He is one of the few artists I have ever seen who uses the Ralph McQuarrie paint technique to really make his figures stand out.  I love the way he paints his figures with well placed highlights to really compliment his sculpts.  Definitely check out the rest of this artist's work.  Even his work outside of Clone Wars is super cool.  You're bound to be as impressed as I am.  Check out the video slide show compilation I made of  his figures.  It's a great introduction to his work.
