"Medcha Wanto" created by Darth Daddy

After a very warm December, it finally feels as if winter has arrived.  We had one of our first snowfalls here at home, and we felt that now would be the perfect time to post an action figure that fit the frigid temperatures we are beginning to experience.

In The Clone Wars first season episode TrespassAnakin and Obi-Wan were caught in the middle of an escalating conflict between the furry territorial inhabitants of a desolate ice world and the greedy representatives of a nearby moon while investigating the disappearance of a clone security force.  The Talz species was first introduced in A New Hope in the iconic Cantina bar scene with the character of bar patron Muftak.  We loved that this species was brought back for an educational episode about the perils of advocating ethnocentrism.  So much so, that we wanted to pay tribute to the episode by immortalizing one of the Talz characters in plastic.

Medcha Wanto was a Talz who was scribe to the Talz chieftain Thi-Sen.  Hasbro produced an action figure of Thi-Sen that was one of the best figures we got from The Clone Wars action figure line. With removable accessories, the action figure gave consumers the ability to army build all the Talz warriors that they liked.

Good friend and Star Wars customizer, Peak-OB1 had the brilliant idea of adding accessories to the base figure to create the Medcha Wanto action figure.  To do so he fabricated a headdress and removable clothing to create the character.  We really admired his brilliance, and were very thankful when he let us borrow his sculpted headdress to mold and cast to make one of our own. The casting process wasn't perfect (air bubbles are the enemy) so I had to make a few adjustments to his original sculpt to repair the cast that was made.  After that I made a sculpt of his clothing and parchment from Green stuff to complete the figure.  Like Peak-OB1 Custom Creations, I made the accessories removable. We really liked how the figure came out!

Clone Wars "99" Custom Action Figure created by Darth Daddy

99 was a malformed clone of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett who served the cloning facilities at Tipoca City on the planet Kamino during the Clone Wars.

99 was deemed unfit for service in the Grand Army of the Republic because of his limited physical abilities and overly rapid aging and was assigned to perform janitorial duties in Kamino's cloning facilities.

He befriended the members of Domino Squadcadets CT-782, CT-00-2010, CT-21-0408, CT-4040, and CT-5555—during their final exam to become clone troopers. However, Domino Squad lacked proper teamwork, which caused it to fail the Citadel Challenge

Though Jedi Master Shaak Ti decided to give Domino Squad a second chance, 99 later caught CT-782 attempting to go absent without leave in the middle of the night. 99 pleaded with CT-782, whom he nicknamed Hevy, not to leave and taught him the importance of teamwork and brotherhood. Deciding to take 99's advice and name to heart, Hevy led his squad to finish its final exam. Later, Hevy decided to give his graduation medal to 99, with the promise that they would meet again.

During an attack launched against Tipoca City by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, 99 assisted clone troopers CT-21-0408, CT-27-5555, and a group of cadets against the invading droid forces. After meeting with CT-7567 and CC-2224, 99 assisted the captain and commander in defending the city. 99 was shot and killed by a battle droid while attempting to retrieve explosives for use in combating the droids. Once the Confederacy was pushed back, 99 was mourned by his brothers and commended as a true soldier.

99 was a dedicated and loyal member of the maintenance division of the Grand Army of the Republic, but was often looked down upon because of his deformity—while 99 always respected his brothers. 99 was also a source of wisdom and was able to develop a strong friendship with Hevy after talking him out of going AWOL.

Despite his limitations, 99 was proud of his basic soldier's heritage which his brothers were able to execute, and was determined to be useful in combat. When Kamino was invaded by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, 99 helped out as best he could by delivering needed weaponry to the clone troopers.

I've always had a soft spot for 99.  I really respect 99's love for his fellow brothers.  Although, 99 wasn't considered to be worthy for battle, he was still brave enough to make the ultimate sacrifice defending Kamino during its invasion.  The immense heart that 99 exemplified throughout the first two episodes of Clone Wars Season 3 made me want to pay tribute to the character.  I threw him together over the course of the week and made all of his accessories, other than backpack and helmet, by hand.  I have been really wanting to make this action figure for a really long time now.  I really geeked out when I finally got him finished.  Definitely one of my favorite clones of all-time.

I fabricated Hevy's medal out of Green Stuff that I rolled flat and allowed to dry.  I then cut out the shapes I needed with a scissor.

I attached a magnet to the medal so I could attach it to a second magnet I glued into the backpack making it harder to lose my accessories and preventing them from falling out of the backpack.

I also magnetized the grenades 99 carries in his backpacks so they didn't roll away on me.

Ready for battle!

"Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi in Maul Mando Armor" created by Darth Daddy

So lately Dad has been trying his best to try and create as many Clone Wars characters from the remaining seasons into action figure form.  Dad says that everyone mourns loss differently, and I'm so glad that my Dad chose to cope with the loss in the way that he has.  There are so many characters that I wish made it to action figure form, and I know I'm not alone in thinking that.  Numerous collectors have echoed our sentiment calling for more Clone Wars action figures.  At home we have been hoping we'd see Hasbro release a few new action figures to commemorate the release of Clone Wars: The Lost Missions, but we aren't holding our breath.  The Clone Wars line has been dead for a few years now and although it was Hasbro's best selling Star Wars line, the chances of ever seeing a new Clone Wars action figure aren't very good.  This week a lot of Star Wars fan sites were stating that a Star Wars action figure subscription line would be a bad thing for collecting, but I can't help but think that a Clone Wars action figure subscription line might be our only chance of ever seeing this line continue in any way.  I know I'd buy more than one subscription if it ever happened.  Until then we only have a handful of customizers who can show us what could have been if the line continued.

With Hasbro always stating that Anakin and Obi-Wan action figures are their best selling figures, we could have easily seen Dad's latest action figure creation released if the Clone Wars action figure line had continued until the show had reached it's end.  Unfortunately the line was already canceled before this version of Obi-Wan ever made his debut in episodic form.  What a shame too, because I love the look of this figure.  I imagine this version of Obi-Wan Kenobi would have flown off the shelves.

The best part about this figure is that you get two characters for the price of one.  The way Dad made his figure, you get a Maul Mando and you get Obi-Wan in the Mando armor.  You can't beat that.  All Hasbro needed to do was use a slip on helmet or just include two heads.  I love that I can use the figure as two different characters. It's definitely the best part about this figure.

Dad used the Death Watch Mandalorian body from the Mini-Rig set, because he liked the ball jointed wrists.
