Vintage Style Cardback Kit by thewriteguy

Last week we received an email from Star Wars customizer Howard Wen aka thewriteguy informing us of a Vintage Style Cardback Kit that he recently created. Some of you may remember the epic plans for his cardboard 1:18 scale U-Wing that he  shared with all of our readers so they could make a better scaled version of the Rogue One vehicle at home. We thought it was great how he released his plans to the public so everyone could download them for free.

His latest kit includes pre-made layer stacks that work on Paint-NET (a free image editor for Windows) that gives you the ability to make cardbacks of your own. Basically, all you need to do is add a photo or artwork, turn "on" or "off" layer categories for figure frame and nameplate sizes, bar frame effects, etc., and you can generate a Vintage-style cardback design with ease in no time at all. The result will be a cardback in 6" x 9" size, 300 dpi. He even included instructions for how to glue your printed cardback design onto card stock.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this awesome offer just click the links below!

If you use another image editor, like Photoshop, then you can download just the templates.

You can check out examples of cards created with his layer stack kit here:

Star Wars: A Custom 1:12 Galaxy

So our little break is still in effect, but that doesn't mean that we are going to leave our readers high and dry. We may not be showcasing any finished projects at the moment, but that doesn't mean we can't share some of the things that our friends are up to in the meantime.

One exciting new development we'd love to tell you all about is a project some of our fellow customizers just launched over at Facebook. Star Wars: A Custom 1:12 Galaxy was founded by a community of like-minded customizers that provides an educational resource for 1:12 Star Wars custom figures and dioramas. They built a customizer's archive that is a full-blown “cookbook” chock-full of figure recipes, diorama blueprints, tutorial guides as well as a databank of materials that will allow you to search out and find the unique custom cast parts you need to complete any project. They encourage their members to share before, during and after photos of their work and discuss techniques that were used to make their Star Wars custom creations. The group provides support for all skill levels, including those eager to start their very first custom.

They also encourage members to promote and sell their 1:12 custom work if they so choose. There it is okay to commission your work, sell completed custom figures, casts, parts and accessories. It's also okay to sell your excess fodder. Although it is important to note that this is not the group to scalp your collection under the pretense that a customizer may want it.

Their customizer's archive is maintained and updated by their admin team and is easily accessible to fellow customizers. If you have a recipe, product or tutorial that you would like added to the archive, please contact an admin. They strive to include everything they find, because Star Wars customizing is neverending galaxy of possibilities!

CUSTOMS FOR THE KID - THE STAR WARS ROOM

For die hard action figure collectors, there is either a small corner in the home that pays homage to the plastic, or an all-out display room devoted it. The most extreme can coat every wall in their homes with their collection. My dad has tried his best to keep the display focused to just my room, but he already lost that battle. Now Dad just tries to keep my Star Wars collection out of his side of the home. Anyhow, that is a conversation for another time.

This is just a peak at my Star Wars collection. Well, my bedroom to be exact.  The last time we did a video of my room was five years ago so an update was warranted.  A LOT has changed. Dad shot some footage of it to test a camera light he had and gave me the raw footage. I am not sure when I am going to have time to edit it into something more polished, so I figured I'd just share what Dad filmed that day with our readers.

I hope you enjoy. If there is something that looks like a custom in the room, that you have never seen before, and you want to know more about the particular piece, there is a good chance it is featured on our Customizer Spotlight page, or it could be something that we made here at home which you get information on by clicking the photo of the custom we made located in our Action Figure Index and learn about more about how each figure was made.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT - "PORGS" by ASIS FILM MODELS

Porgs, the cute avian creatures from The Last Jedi, are now available in the 3.75" scale from Asis Film Models. We scored a carded set over the holiday, and it's such a cool product offering, we'd jump on this sweet deal before it's sold out.  The card stock was beautiful and the presentation was on point. Magnets were even present on both the feet of the Porgs and the Ahch-To rock making the set ideal for display purposes.

- Includes 3 porgs with an Ahch-To rock displayed on a Vintage style blister card with "detachable" bubble for easy access.

Numbered edition of ONLY 100!

Ready for display in your collection or Star Wars diorama!

CUSTOMS FOR THE KID - 2017

Another year is wrapping up here at the blog. Although it is rather early in the month of December, we figured we'd do our end of the year video now because we don't think we have anymore customs coming this month. In fact, we may have to take a "short" break from customizing for a few months due to some upcoming changes here at home. More about all of that at a later date though.

Below is a video slideshow compilation of all the Star Wars custom action figures made this year by Darth Daddy and Elias of Customs for the Kid.  We only made 36 action figures this year, but we peppered in a lot of work by other Star Wars artists to keep you all entertained. To see more information on each custom in the video go to our Action Figure Index and click on the image of the action figure(s) you are interested in learning more about.

Until we are back up and running, take time to explore the blog in its entirety.  There is almost a decade of material here from artists from all over the world. Click away at all the images in the sidebar, or just start at the beginning of the blog and work your way through while we are away. Before you know it we will be back up and running, and everything will be back to normal.  Until then, have a good holiday season and we'll see you sometime later in 2018!
