Happy Star Wars Day!
To celebrate the day we thought we would share our latest custom commission. This Admiral Trench action figure was 100% sculpted and painted by hand.
To begin the build, I used an AOTC Orn Free Taa action figure for my base figure, and then completely rebuilt the torso to accommodate three arms on each side of the body. The arms I borrowed from several Clone Wars Phase I Clone Troopers that I sanded the armor off of so I could utilize their joints and appendages for Trench.
Once I had a rough skeleton built out, I got to sculpting out all the necessary forms and later on, all the fine details with the help of some ProCreate. I made the head using a cast of my previous Trench’s head, and resculpting his left side with the same sculpting putty.
I recarved the feet with a hot knife and then made molds and several casts of the hands from the K'Kruhk action figure from the Build A Droid line to create the figure at a faster pace.
His accessory was designed on my laptop and then printed out on our 3D printer.
Once I felt like I achieved Trench's likeness, I set to painting the intricate patterning on his robe and tackled the challenge of continuing the pattern around to the back of the figure. This proved quite difficult because there is no reference of him from that angle. I did my best with the partial shots I was able to locate and inferred how these patterns would continue outside of the frame. Once I felt I acheived a satisfying conclusion to my efforts, I set to replicating the Trench symbol and Trade Federation insignia on the shoulders to complete the figure.
I am really happy with both the sculpt and the paintwork on this particular piece. He turned out even better than I had originally envisioned. This is just one of several pieces I will be making for this client. I can't wait to share his other commissions once they are completed.
May the fourth be with you!
