"CUSTOMS FOR THE KID" 2025 - YEAR IN REVIEW

With me studying for my Industrial Design degree at UCONN and Dad working overtime every week, the time needed to make custom action figures has been in short supply. Usually, I have my commissions to fall back on for posts, but a good portion of my year was spent making action figures for "Josie and the Pussycats" and "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space" toy lines. Not ideal content for a Star Wars custom action figure blog. Therefore, original fully sculpted figures that we made here at home were in shorter supply than in previous years.

To overcome the deficit, our customs this year were focused a lot more on a continued tradition at the blog...showcasing third-party custom offerings available for sale from other artists in the community that our readers can use to flesh out their own 3.75" Star Wars action figure collections.

We still made a handful of figures from scratch like our Captain Bombardier, Duchess Zilla, as well as a few variations of Assaj Ventress, but the rest of what we shared was what can be done with offerings from our friends who sell their custom creations. These figures were the product of some home assembly and adding our own detailed paint applications.

Life got busy this year, but our passion has not decreased, and we will continue to develop new exciting art projects to share when we are able.

We would like to give a big thanks to the HalcAnon Podcast for having me on earlier this year to discuss one of my other artistic exploits...special fx make-up applications. It offers a great introduction to some techniques that can be adopted by those who like to cosplay.

We would like to thank the Bespin Refugee at Jedi Insider for the "Custom of the Week" features this year. It was cool to see some of our original work as well as some collaborative efforts get featured.

It was a real honor to have Chris Bartlett the actor who played Q-90 share the action figure we made on his Instagram story this year!

Enjoy the video below of this year's creations.

"THE MANDALORIAN" MOFF GIDEON - DARK TROOPER ARMOR with REMOVABLE HELMET by "Customs for the Kid"

Dad purchased this headsculpt from vonShoetoys on Etsy so we can have a more complete release of Moff Gideon in his Dark Trooper Armor appearance. I just needed to paint the resin headcast when it arrived to complete the alternate head. Once completed we added him to the rest of the figures on display on our shelves.

"ANDOR: A STAR WARS STORY" MAJOR LIO PARTAGAZ created by Darth Daddy of "Customs for the Kid"

Lio Partagaz was a human male who served the Imperial Security Bureau as a major. He led the ISB Board in the ISB Central Office on the Imperial capital planet of Coruscant and concerned himself with identifying unrest long before it escalated into a threat to Imperial safety. Supervising the ISB Board, which comprised the highest echelon of field operatives in ISB, Partagaz managed eighteen ISB sectorial Supervisors and their attendants, as well as members of the Imperial Navy and Army whenever required. Partagaz organized the supervisors, settled personal or work-related disputes, and managed meetings. He became well-respected within the board and the Empire for his intelligence and competence, becoming friends with Director Orson Krennic.

Partagaz served as the ISB board supervisor during a turbulent time in the Empire, with random acts of rebellion appearing throughout the galaxy. After the Heist on Aldhani, Partagaz was involved with the ISB response during an emergency meeting and the passing of the Public Order Resentencing Directive. Partagaz was also involved in Dedra Meero's search for the "Axis" of the rebels, who, unbeknownst to the Bureau, was Luthen Rael. He was also heavily involved with the Imperial activity at Ghorman, supervising the majority of the field operation, and being one of the few people fully aware of the purpose of the operation. After failing to prevent the Rebel extraction of Kleya Marki, a rebel who had been passed on classified intelligence relating to Project Stardust, Partagaz took his own life to prevent being arrested for his failure.

To make the figure we purchased an unpainted resin headcast of the character designed by JCirion3D from Syndicate Customs. We had some rank insignia modifications needed that were easily addressed with an X-acto knife. Some paint was added to the purchased head as well as the hands and shoulders of the Imperial Officer base figure from TVC 4-pack.

"THE CLONE WARS" C-21 Highsinger created by Darth Daddy

C-21 Highsinger is a droid much needed in The Vintage Collection. There have been so many droids neglected in the 3.75" line. That is why we felt Highsinger would be a great character to promote the 3rd annual Last Figure Standing fan poll event going on currently. Collectors recently submitted their Top 10 most wanted Vintage Collection figures. The results of those submissions will be used to determine the community's overall most wanted 12 figures. That's where the fun begins as a series of elimination rounds slowly eliminates the chosen figures until only one remains and we crown the Last Figure Standing for 2025.

C-21 Highsinger was #3 on our list behind The Client played by Wernor Herzog and Dryden Vos played by Paul Bettany.

The 3D print we purchased from Syndicate Customs was designed by Skylu3D and offered some excellent articulation. The figure had articulation at the head, shoulder, elbow, wrists, torso, hips, knees. and has rocker ankles.

All Dad had to do was assemble, paint, and then add some Model Masters cement glue in all of the joints to tighten them up. Dad added small rare Earth magnets at the hip joints to increase their sturdiness.

C-21 Highsinger was a combat droid bounty hunter that operated during the Clone Wars. He was part of Krayt's Claw, a syndicate of bounty hunters that included Boba Fett, Latts Razzi, Dengar, Bossk, and Oked. He had extensive modifications, including precision-engineered servomotors and manipulators. Although a deadly combat droid, C-21 Highsinger had his battle programming pushed beyond its limits when defending Otua Blank's subtram from the swift Kage Warriors. Later in the Clone War, Highsinger was with the other members of Krayt's Claw, worked when Boba Fett guided former Jedi Master Quinlan Vos to find former Sith apprentice Asajj Ventress and enlist her support in a mission to assassinate her former master, Separatist leader Count Dooku.

Highsinger continued to work with Razzi into the reign of the Galactic Empire

Highsinger's superhuman reflexes, speed and agility enabled him to be a terrifyingly efficient combat machine, excelling at armed and unarmed combat, as well as martial arts.[1] While Highsinger rotated and fired with his rapid speed, everyone, including allies such as Boba Fett had to remain out of harm's way. Highsinger's reflexes and speed combination proved lethal as he opened fire on the Kage Warriors.[3] Highsinger was also an expert tracker.[1]

"THE CLONE WARS - THE WRONG JEDI" ASSAJ VENTRESS created by Elias of "Customs for the Kid"

Adding variety to the blog has been challenging this year. The way my commission requests have been developing, I have already had to make three Assaj Ventress this year with only minor variations. The actual commission for this project is for another  Assaj Ventress, but I had a TVC Assaj Ventress recently shipped from Hasbro Pulse so I decided to make an animated alternate head for my own figure while my own figure was in transit. When I finished the "Dark Disciple" custom, I swapped the head of the original figure and added the one that I just made then photographed her with a set of red lightsabers from when Ventress was ambushed by Bariss Offee in "The Wrong Jedi".

I was so thankful I molded the torso of my second Ventress commission from this year because making a flexible resin cast of the torso saved me a lot of sculpting hours.
