"STAR WARS REBELS" QUARRIE

The Quarrie figure pictured here was purchased from @angryraccoonminiatures (aka @howlingduck) on Instagram.

After we got the figure in the mail, we made a few special modifications ourselves. Darth Daddy painted the base colors onto the figure and then Elias modified the eyes and lower half of the head sculpt with some ProCreate to produce a "Customs for the Kid" head for the final figure that is pictured here. After, Elias added some highlights to my original paintjob to finish it up so I could take these photos, I went and added a few touch ups of my own after he wrapped up. A true team project from three different artists.

@angryraccoonminiatures have plenty of other noteworthy "Star Wars Rebels" characters available for purchase in his Etsy store so be sure to check them out!

Quarrie was a Mon Calamari starship engineer who lived on the remote planet of Shantipole during the Age of the Empire. After the early rebellion suffered losses against the Galactic Empire during an attempted blockade run, rebel Hera Syndulla and members of her crew came to Shantipole in order to retrieve the prototype B-Wing, Prototype B6, which he dubbed the "Blade Wing." Quarrie was initially uninterested, as he did not believe Syndulla to be the right pilot for his ship. However, her story of growing up and dreaming of being a pilot swayed Quarrie's mind, and he allowed her to test the starfighter.

After a successful test run, the starfighter was taken back to the network's fleet. For the journey, he also installed a hyperdrive and an exterior astromech socket on Hera's shuttle Phantom. The Phantom then towed the B-wing prototype to the planet Ibaar. With the B-Wing's advanced weaponry, the Rebels were able to break the Imperial blockade over the planet Ibaar and deliver food to the planet's starving populace. Afterwards, Quarrie, along with his Lothal astromech droid BG-81, left the network fleet in order to oversee the production of more B-Wings for the rebel cause.

Quarrie was a short, male Mon Calamari master engineer who specialized in building starships. He took pride in his work and was eager to experiment with speed, agility, and weapons. Quarrie was not a pilot, and was only willing to let the best pilot fly his Prototype B6 starfighter. His prototype B6 became the basis for the rebellion's A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter.

Quarrie's name is derived from the name of concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. He first appeared in the Star Wars Rebels - Season Two episode "Wings of the Master," which premiered on Disney XD on November 11, 2015. He was voiced by Corey Burton, who later reprised the role in the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.

STAR WARS REBELS "AZMORIGAN" created by Customs for the Kid

Azmorigan was a male Jablogian who was a criminal leader operating in the Outer Rim Territories about four years before the Battle of Yavin. On one occasion, the "galactic entrepreneur" Lando Calrissian tricked him into selling a puffer pig in return for the Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla. However, Hera escaped and rejoined Lando and her Rebel crew aboard the Ghost. An enraged Azmorigan pursued Calrissian and his rebel associates to Lothal and attempted to exact revenge on Calrissian. However, the rebels fought off Azmorigan and his henchmen; forcing him to retreat.

Later, Azmorigan purchased five power generators from the Devaronian crime lord Cikatro Vizago and arranged to rendezvous with him on Nixus Hub 218. However, the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka took over Vizago's ship the Broken Horn. Together with the Rebels Ezra Bridger and Chopper, Hondo traveled to Nixus only to be captured by Azmorigan and his henchmen. Seeking to settle scores with both Hondo and Ezra, Azmorigan decided to use a loading dolly to fire them into space. However, his plans were foiled by Chopper who attacked his henchmen, creating a commotion that allowed Ezra and Hondo to free themselves and turn the tables on him. Azmorigan and his surviving henchmen were forced to flee, with the criminal leader resulting in him losing his credits.

Despite his adversarial encounters with Hondo and the Ghost crew, he joined forces with the two parties in order to loot treasure from an Imperial Class four container transport. Azmorigan and Hondo were solely motivated by pecuniary gain but managed to convince the Rebels to help them after pointing out the presence of proton bombs aboard the ship. Following a harrowing mission, Azmorigan, Hondo, and the Ghost crew were able to obtain their goals.

This was a figure that Dad had parted out, assembled. and even had a preliminary sculpt for the body going before I took over. I added a headsculpt, refined his sculpt, and painted the finished product. The upper torso and arms were from a Clone Wars Castas action figure and the legs were from a Clone Wars Even Piel. The thighs were once a Force Link Chewbacca's before being completely reshaped.  The hands of a Clone Wars Aurra Sing were modified so that a finger was removed off each hand before being added to the custom to finish it off.

While this is most likely stating the obvious, it should be noted that the torso was completely re-sculpted, and the headsculpt for Azmorigan was made completely from scratch.  Constructing the head in layers, allowing forms to dry before sculpting the next layer, the head was slowly constructed step by step, which allowed for more control over the sculpting process.

As a character, I find Azmorigan pretty gross, but I wanted to make him as a gift on a special occasion for my Dad, and he's over the moon about it.  Despite how I feel about Azmorigan's looks, I must say I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.

STAR WARS REBELS "HONDO OHNAKA" created by CUSTOMS FOR THE KID

This was a figure that my Dad had started prior to stepping down from his role here at the blog. He did both the build and the sculpt for the figure. To build the frame, he used the lower arms of The Clone Wars Hondo Ohnaka, the upper arms of a Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (heavily re-sculpted), the upper torso of an Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull Mutt Williams action figure (heavily re-sculpted), the thighs of a Clone Wars Admiral Yularen and the lower legs and feet from a Black Series Force Awakens Leia Organa (heavily re-sculpted).

Seeing Dad's almost completed work just sitting there inspired me to pick up where he left off and add some color to his sculpt. By the time I put the figure down he was fully painted, Hondo symbol painted on his back and all. Dad couldn't be more excited to see this one finished. Hondo is one of Dad's favorite Star Wars characters!

The head was a 3-D resin printed cast from Watto's Scrapyard. It was a lot of fun to start bringing one of his heads to life with some paint. When it painted up as well as it did, I wanted to get going on the other fifty or so heads we received from Wattos.

For Hondo's eyes, I first painted his flesh tone, the whites of his eyes, his pupil and the light reflection in his pupil. Once his eyes were painted, I applied three coats of Pledge Future Floor Wax where the glass of his goggles would be letting each layer dry before adding another coat. Then I did a single layer of a green wash to tint the surface, and then sealed it in with one last coast of the floor wax.

Kessel Run Review - Episode 24

When we found out that Kessel Run Review was coming back from their seven year hiatus, we were so excited that it was hard to stay tight lipped about it. Thankfully, our good friend Luke Sprywalker and his Outer Rim Traders store were also being featured on the show so we were able to talk about our excitement with him before the newest episode was released today.  Like many of our friends in the Star Wars toy collecting community, we were huge fans of the show. From solid toy reviews to hilarious creative commercials, Kessel Run Review always impressed. What we really loved about Wookielover1138's toy review show was that she always took the time to feature custom action figure art in every episode's "Custom Cargo". Showcasing custom action figure artists in every episode was unique to all other toy shows at the time, and we became loyal viewers. The return episode does not disappoint. It brought back all the best elements of the show and it felt like they never left. Their new studio looks great, and did you see that awesome Padme nose art on that Republic Gunship at the end of the video, so cool! We can't thank Wookielover1138 enough for letting us be a part of Kessel Run Review's special return episode!

STAR WARS RESISTANCE "CB-23" created by Darth Daddy

CB-23 was a BB-series astromech droid with feminine programming who was a member of the Resistance in 34 ABY. She was assigned to Commander Poe Dameron while BB-8 was stationed on the Colossus with Kazuda Xiono. After Dameron took back BB-8 before going on a mission to Jakku, CB-23 replaced the droid as Kaz's sidekick while on his misson on the Colossus platform.

CB-23 was a BB-series astromech droid with a spherical chassis, feminine programming, and red-blue plating. She was initially jealous of BB-8 but came to appreciate her fellow droid better after he saved her from a marauding Kowakian monkey-lizard. The two subsequently became friends.

CB-23 is a character created for Star Wars Resistance. She first appeared in the episode "Signal from Sector Six."[2] The droid's name was BB-23 in early stages of the episode, but as it was felt that having two droids named BB would have been confusing, she was renamed CB-23 as a nod to Carrie Beck, Vice President of Development within the Lucasfilm Story Group.

This is the first custom that we made from the Star Wars Resistance TV show. We would love to do more because not enough toys were made from this show in the action figure line. We were given the 3-D print file for CB-23's head from fellow Star Wars customizer, Sandcrawler Customs. He had just made a 6" version. I scaled the head down to 3.75", printed the head and then added it to the body of the BB-8 from the Resistance action figure line and gave the figure a repaint.

THE CLONE WARS - SEASON 7 "ANAKIN SKYWALKER" created by Darth Daddy

This action figure was created for a commission. Our good friend Corey Van Dyke of Kessel Run Transmissions asked Dad if he could make him an Anakin Skywalker in time for the release of Season 7. Dad was a little worried about the deadline, but was able to finish the figure in less than a week.

We may have another cool Clone Wars action figure coming later in the season of the show so keep coming back for that reveal.

Look for Dad to appear as a recurring guest on Kessel Run Transmissions Friday evenings as they review each episode of Season 7 of The Clone Wars.
