#CLONEWARSSAVED REACTION

Peak-OB1 Custom Creations & Customs for the Kid respond to the announcement by Lucasfilm about the return of "The Clone Wars" animated TV series and we discuss how it may impact the Star Wars action figure line. Make sure you listen to the end of our videocast for our special announcement. Be sure to share your thoughts on the future of Clone Wars action figures and what you want to see in the comments below.

SHOW NOTES

Check out the lists Peak-OB1 and Customs for the Kid were asked to put together for Jedi Temple Archives to share with Hasbro. We were happy that it already reached the eyes of Steve Evans director of design for the Star Wars brand team over at Hasbro.

In a perfect world, the sculpts on these figures would be made so they could pass for animated or realistic. A hybrid, similar to The Clone Wars action figure of Cad Bane that came with TODO-360.

"This list was a blast to do! It's nice to offer some concepts and ideas every once in while! Both Darth Daddy and I left off a bunch of characters.

Here is Peak-OB1's most wanted list:

1.) Bo Katan: We are in a time right now where, like it or not Girls rule! This character is in both Clone Wars and Rebels and everyone loves Mando bounty hunters

2.) Sugi: Once again this character is in Clone Wars and mentioned in the book "Shattered Empire"  where her niece is one of the main characters fly that green gunship around!

3.) Ben Kenobi in Rako Hardeen Disguise: Would be my absolute all time favorite! This is such a great look for him and the first time, he uses the code name Ben!

4.) Ventress Bounty Hunter: or pretty much any Ventress outfit you want to make would be a hit in my mind! She is such a solid character by the end of the show!

5.) Ketsu Onyo: In both Rebels and the new Forces of Destiny. Probably the most elaborate costume I have seen since Hasbro made Cato Parisiti in the toy line.

There's so many more. If just a few of these are produced I'm sure it would make a lot of people happy!

Also Wanted to thank Paul Very much, for letting us work on this list!" - Peak-OB1 Custom Creations

"I really wanted to get the 99 action figure on the list, but we tried to narrow it down to only a certain number of slots and I lost the coin toss ;) I think we need an action figure of a character of his caliber in the line. Imagine what the implications would have been if Domino Squad never made it into the field as their instructors were planning. 99 had a huge impact on The Clone Wars, but we forget his contribution by the end. He also is very relatable to all the Star Wars fans overcoming short term or long term disabilities that rarely feel represented in toy lines.

I think all the figures listed here are significant enough characters to merit a figure and it would be nice to see them made over the coming years.

I like all the interest in this topic because it shows just how much love there is for the animated Star Wars content.

DARTH DADDY's TOP 10 DESIRED "CLONE WARS" FIGURES

1.) Satine Kryze: Any Outfit. Preferably a 3-pack of her in her headdress outfit, pink adventure gear outfit, and the blue outfit she died in. The love interest of Obi-Wan Kenobi NEEDS an action figure. She died in his arms! At Maul's hands. What fan doesn't want to recreate that scene in plastic?

2.) Professor Huyang: Love the idea of a droid lightsaber building instructor who was present when Yoda built his own lightsaber. With David Tenant from Dr.Who voicing the character he is sure to be a good selling figure.

3.) Bo Katan: She is in both Clone Wars and Rebels and features as a major player in both. Viszla’s partner in crime. Plus, she's a Mandalorian and Satine's sister.

4.) Pong Krell: Scariest villain in the entire series, and he’s a Jedi!

5.) Sugi: One of the coolest new bounty hunters we got on the show. I’d love if she came with her ship.

6.) Ziro the Hutt: He was the villain of the theatrical release and a great reoccurring figure throughout the series. He’d look great in a set with Sy Snootles.

7.) Kalani: Love the design of this droid. Plus, he made it into Rebels.

8.) Lux Bonteri: A pretty major character. Lux was the love interest of Ahsoka and they had several adventures together. I’d prefer the Onderaan version for his figure.

9.) Steela Gerrera: The first Rebel leader. Need I say more.

10.) Saw Gerrera: Have to have a companion figure to Steela and Lux. Plus he raises Jyn Erso and is heavily featured in Rogue One.

Other Honorable Mentions: Younglings from Season 5 Ahsoka/Hondo “Gathering” arc, Younglings & Trandoshans from "Padawan Lost", Hondo Gang members, Pune Zignat, C-21 Highsinger, and of course all other figures that actually made our final list.

DARTH DADDY's TOP 10 DESIRED “REBELS” FIGURES

1.) Hondo: One of my favorite Star Wars characters of all-time!

2.) AP-5: The only Ghost crew member to not be made.

3.) Season 3 Ezra Bridger: An updated version of Ezra is a must.

4.) Blind Kanan Jarrus: Another figure we desperately need. It would be cool if the face shield were removable.

5.) Season 3 Sabine Wren: The coolest look Sabine has had on the show so far. Don't forget her Darksaber!

6.) Azmorigan: He'd look awesome in plastic!

7.) Ketsu Onyo: Love the look of the character design.  This character definitely needs a removable helmet.

8.) Lando Calrissian: Love the look of the Rebels Lando.

9.) Cham Syndulla: One of the coolest characters from the animated content and Hera's dad.

10.)  Numa: Another cool nod to The Clone Wars, nothing cooler than seeing Numa all grown up.

Honorable Mentions: Tarkin, Sabine's family, and all other figures that made the final list.

A big thanks to Paul Harrison and Peak-OB1 and for asking me to participate in this!" - Darth Daddy of Customs for the Kid

1. Jedi Temple Guard

2. Jedi General Pong Krell

3. Bo Katan

4. Fives

5. Cad Bane

Honorable Mention

Other Notables

Asajj Ventress - One of the more popular characters outside the films, she had an engaging character arc throughout TCW and beyond.

Hondo Ohnaka - Nomadscout's second favorite character from TCW (behind Gregor), also has the distinction of being in Rebels.

Pre Vizsla - We already said Mandos sell. The stylized animated version was an insult.

Huyang - Voiced by David Tennant. Make the figure, already.

Gregor - Nomadscout's personal favorite character from TCW

Admiral Trench - A competent CIS military leader with an interesting alien design would make a great figure.

Echo - If you're gonna do Fives, you gotta do Echo.

Multipacks/Deluxe Suggestions

Anything Mandolorian - Did we mention the Mandos sell? How about a Deathwatch Pack? Or a Maul/Savage-centered pack?

Nightsisters - We do have an EU version of a Nightsister, but a pack of TCW inspired Nightsisters/Mother Talzin/Asajj Ventress would be cool.

Kid Padawans - Another popular arc was when Ahsoka led 6 young padawans to Ilum (in a nod to the Microseries) to find their kyber crystals.

Father/Son/Daughter - From a polarizing, but interesting arc that tested viewers' understanding of The Force.

Steela/Saw Gererra - Young Saw and his sister Steela were instrumental in the rise of the Rebellion, and Saw later appeared in Rebels and in Rogue One.

Tiplar/Tiplee - Creepy Jedi twins, but would make awesome figures, and were part of the story that featured the only time Sidious kind of panicked.

Cancelled Rex - As an alternative to single figures suggested above, how about the cancelled Rex (Phase 1 & 2), in a 3 pack with ARC Trooper Fives and ARC Trooper Echo?

Ziro - SERIOUSLY, HOW WAS THIS NEVER MADE???

Clone Wars "Jocasta Nu" created by Customs for the Kid

This was a figure we knew we wanted to make for a long time now.  We had a plan for execution, but we also had to follow through on it.  As the project progressed, the plan was modified to produce the best possible outcome.  Originally, we were under the impression that all we had to do was make the CW Darth Sidious headcast from our mold, sculpt some hair onto it, and then add it to the Brian's Toys "Jocasta Nu" exclusive action figure.

While we did do just that, we learned very quickly that there was too much of "Palpatine" in the headsculpt, and we needed to do more to the face sculpt than we had originally anticipated. By the time we finished the figure, we had resculpted the entire head except for her nose.  We sunk in the hollows of her cheeks, accentuated her prominent cheekbones, refashioned her chin to remove the cleft, thinned her brow, and make the chin more pointy to reflect her on screen appearance.  In the end, we couldn't be happier. She looks great on the shelf alongside the other Jedi.  We dedicated this figure to the actress who played Jocasta Nu in the Prequels, Alethea McGrath, who died last February at the age of 96.

CLONE WARS "PRIME MINISTER ALMEC" created by CUSTOMS FOR THE KID & WATTO'S SCRAPYARD

Almec was a male Human from the planet Mandalore, and a one-time believer in the pacifist ways of Duchess Satine Kryze. During the Clone Wars, Almec served as the Prime Minister of Mandalore and did as he thought best to watch over and represent the interests of Mandalore. His dedication became his undoing, however; when Mandalore declared neutrality in the Clone Wars and the planet became cut off from Galactic Republic aid. Almec then established a black market trade network to bring much-needed goods to the Mandalorian people. These smugglers poisoned the people of Sundari with toxic tea, putting numerous children in the hospital. Almec was exposed as the leader of the black market network and summarily imprisoned for his crimes.

When Darth Maul took over Mandalore, Maul broke Almec out of prison and reinstated him as Prime Minister, with Almec declaring loyalty to Maul and his Death Watch allies. Following Maul's capture and imprisonment by Darth Sidious, Almec saw to it that Maul was rescued and brought back to the Death Watch.

This is a 100% sculpted action figure made with ProCreate used on a Clone Wars Savage Opress action figure. The thighs of the figure were shortened to reduce the height of the figure and the hands were switched out with the hands from a realistic version of Count Dooku that came with Force Flipping Attack. The tabards on the figure were manufactured from the skirt that was already present on the Savage figure. From there it was all handcrafted.

The head was a 3D resin print that we purchased from Watto's Scrapyard and Elias painted.

CLONE WARS "DARTH SIDIOUS" created by Darth Daddy

This is a custom Clone Wars action figure that was inspired by TheRealMarch4th.  A few months ago I sent him a Clone Wars headcast of Palpatine that I produced and we were really floored by how he decided to use it.  He took the Darth Sidious from the Yoda 2-pack, replaced the face of the figure  with my headcast and then sculpted the hood down over the eyes.  He then took a soft goods skirt to cover those ugly Hasbro legs to finish the figure.  What an awesome idea!

On my custom figure I took what TheRealMarch4th did one step further. I borrowed elements from his recipe, and just added more articulation to the figure.  I cut everything off below his black frock (the legs and forearms) and added in articulated replacement parts. I borrowed the legs and upper torso from a Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi that I bought in bulk on eBay, and swiped the forearms and brown skirt of the Vintage Darth Sidious figure for my new incarnation of Sidious. By adding these new elements, the figure now would sport ball jointed elbows, swivel wrists, a swivel waist, swivel hips, and ball jointed knees. Before completely assembling the figure, I dyed the skirt from the Vintage figure and used some black soft goods from a Darth Maul figure to create the two layers of fabric in his skirt. Yesterday, I told TheRealMarch4th about the improvements that I made to my Sidious, and he liked them so much he made the same adjustments to his own figure after we spoke.

Any Star Wars fan who watched The Clone Wars episode "Lawless" knows that this version of Darth Sidious needed to be made!

"MELAS - CFTK Version #2" created by Darth Daddy

We really hate doing this, but in this next post, we will be revisiting a character that we created once before at Customs for the Kid.  We personally don't like making more than one version of the same character, unless it's when the character appears in a different outfit, or the figure specifically references another point in the character's timeline in their fictional journey spanning all available Star Wars content. Originally Elias made an action figure of this Cantina denizen, but sold his version to someone after he found a photo of Melas that showed the character wore a skirt below the waist and not pants.

Our second version of Melas is what we have on our collection shelves today and we feel it is a bit more screen accurate than what we previously made. This time instead of using the 2001 Power of the Jedi Ketwol action figure for the base figure of Melas like Elias had, I used only Ketwol's cape and head.  On top of that, I substituted the body in my recipe for a 2010 Darth Sidious (Palpatine) (REVENGE OF THE SITH) VOTC #12 action figure. I sculpted the upper torso, as well as a hat onto the back of Ketwol's head. The hookah I assembled from an assortment of random fodder that I had laying around.  The skirt I used was also from unidentified fodder.

I personally like the paint job on Elias' original figure much more than my own. I may have to spend an extra hour or two on this paint job one day down the line in an attempt to try to equal what Elias did on his Melas' head.

"Melas was a Sarkan exile who traveled from planet to planet. Unlike most Sarkans, he was short, with bright blue eyes and short claws.

Melas' exile was not due to his appearance—rather, it was due to his gregarious nature. Melas enjoyed the company of Humans and other non-Sarkans, and often ignored the complexities of Sarkan rituals when socializing with them. He was forced to leave Sarka because he violated the strict laws of Sarkan protocol on numerous occasions.

Melas greatly missed the natural beauty of his homeworld, but exile was not an insurmountable hardship. He managed to smuggle a fortune in precious metals and gems off Sarka before his exile. Melas traveled across the galaxy, sightseeing and meeting as many different alien species as possible. Naturally, he found himself in Chalmun's Cantina when he visited Tatooine. He was present in the Cantina on the fateful day Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker hired Han Solo.

Melas became fond of smoking an Esoomiangruu pipe during his exile, and was rarely seen without it."
