"THE CLONE WARS - LOST MISSIONS" PLO KOON created by Elias

This project was another commission, and one that I was sad to see leave. Over the course of this project, I found myself meeting unique challenges and learning new things that I'll always have in my tool box.  I'm grateful for the opportunity to bring life to such a cool character, and for all the skills I learned along the way.

The parts required for this figure were a Clone Wars Plo Koon, a season three Clone Wars Obi Wan, and the garments were taken from a 30th anniversary Hawkbat Battalion Clone Trooper.  Plo Koon's head remained mostly unmodified, except for his specialized mask, which was hand sculpted.  The torso of the Plo Koon was sanded smooth with a Dremel and re-sculpted to feature his breastplate armor and layered robes.  The pouches were hand sculpted and then applied to the belt.  The skirt was cut short using an X-Acto knife and smoothed with the Dremel to appear as a single piece.  Aside from armor pads on each thigh, the legs remained mostly unmodified.  In order to increase the articulation of the figure, I took the knees from a Clone Wars Obi Wan and inserted them into the knees of the Plo Koon.  I did so by cutting the boots off of the Plo Koon and removing the knee region from the remaining leg.  This was to create room for the new knee joints so they would fit proportionately in relation to the rest of the leg, making the modification nearly undetectable.

The head scarf was made from the hood which came with the Plo Koon.  The lower shoulder scarf was completely hand sculpted.  I did this using a simple disk of nearly dry sculpting material, and cutting a neck hole into the center of it.  I then draped it over the figure and waited for it to dry completely.  After that, I had a base to sculpt onto, which allowed me to add all the details in my second sculpting pass.  The poncho from the Hawkbat Clone Trooper originally didn't fit the Plo Koon, so I removed the original stitching and hand sewed darts into the shoulders for a more satisfying form fitted appearance.  I took a piece of fabric and cut it into a disk-like shape which I used as the second layer of the poncho.  I repeated the process, custom cutting it to fit and hand sewing darts into the shoulders.

Once the sewing and sculpting were complete, I painted the figure completely to match Plo Koon as he was depicted on screen.  After painting the fabrics to the desired colors and adding the embroidery on the edge of the upper poncho, I cut the holes and tears into the edges of both ponchos, giving them their aged appearance they had in the episode of The Clone Wars.

Even though this figure won't be staying with me, I still feel happy to have brought the character to life.  Most importantly, before sending it away, molds were made of the head sculpt, hood, and shoulder scarf which will soon be available on the Rebel Kid Creations store.  With the casts available, I'm hoping to add him to my own collection one of these days as well!

CLONE WARS "IMA GUN DI" HEAD COMMISSION sculpted and painted by Elias

This is my first commission for just a head of an action figure rather than an entire figure. For this piece, I was commissioned to sculpt and paint a Clone Wars Ima Gun Di action figure head for a custom action figure that my customer was making. I sculpted the head with ProCreate and then painted him once the sculpt was complete.

I made a mold of the original sculpt before I mailed it out to its new home. That way, if I want to make one for myself one day, I still can. Until then, casts of my sculpt will be available at the Rebel Kid Creations store this weekend for all of you who want to add the Jedi to your own Clone Wars collections. We can't wait to see what you all do with them!

ANTOC MERRICK'S ASTROMECH created by Elias

This was just a quick repaint of some spare R2-R9 build a droid parts we had laying around the house. After getting Blue Leader's X-wing this week I had to add his droid to his ship before I hung it up from my ceiling. It feels really good to fill out my action figure collection for Rogue One.

"CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT" UPDATE - "Fennec Shand" created by Stocos28

Stocos28 once again graces our shelves with this wonderful custom 3.75” Fennec Shand action figure from The Mandalorian!  The figure sports a stunning likeness to Ming Na Wen thanks to the talents of Watto’s Scrapyard, and Stocos28’s beautiful paint job.  The figure features soft goods, an alternative head with her helmet, as well as full range of articulation.  Her screen accurate sniper rifle was provided by Aude’s Workshop.

All in all, this is a great figure.  Her sculpt is on point, and her paint is beautiful.  Because she is super articulated, she has all the range of motion you would want in a bounty hunter action figure.  The option to change between her helmet and her head is another feature to appreciate.  Stocos28’s exemplary work never fails to impress us here at Customs for the Kid.

Be sure to visit his eBay store at http://myworld.ebay.com/stocos28/ to keep up with his latest creations!

NEW ITEMS ADDED TO "REBEL KID CREATIONS" STORE!

This latest batch of additions to the store is a mixed assortment of customizing fun. From unique heads and cool accessories to some army building offerings we hope you all enjoy this next grouping of goodies as much as we do.

First up is our favorite item, a multi-pack Space Pirate Gang Expansion Pack assortment filled with assorted pirate heads and a few accessories to help you to diversify your own personal custom pirate crew. This was a kit we wanted for ourselves at home and we added all the pieces we would want to see included in the expansion pack. Besides getting two generic male heads and a generic female pirate head, you also get a female head wearing a bandana, a female head wearing headphones and goggles, and a male pirate head with a mohawk of braids. Included with the heads are a peg leg and 8 braids that you can decorate your heads with. Having a quick and easy way to expand your pirate gang is a luxury that we have had at home for quite some time and we thought it would be fun to share the same opportunities with all of you. Some of these pirate heads are completely new even for us and were made specifically for their inclusion in this kit.

EXPANSION PACK

The Jetpack has been added to Female Warrior Rebel Artist headcast listing and possibly may be available for sale alone but only for a limited time. At the very least it was nice to see the wings come through on the cast making it easier to paint at home. A blank version without the wings will likely be added to the store at some point in the future.

Adding this next item featuring our Slaver Queen headcast to the store was quite the process and something we are super excited for. This was our first 3D designed headcast made on our 3D printer at home that we later made a silicone mold of and casted in a flexible resin. Before we even started to design the headcast in Blender, we used a program called Meshroom that uses photogrammetry to take an already existing object and make it into 3D model that you can print on a 3D printer at home with just photos of the object. Since we had already hand sculpted the head in the past, we first took photos of what we already had on our shelf and generated a 3D model of the head. Then the model was improved in Blender before we settled on something we wanted to print and mold.  Expect a lot more headcasts to be added to the store in this way going forward. We love how great she looks painted!

This Phase II Clone Pilot head was such a hard piece to come by, so we made a mold of it for home use, but we soon realized it would be a great help to all the clone customizers out there.  We remolded it for more frequent use and now have it available on the store under Action Figure Headcasts.

Our final offering is our Advanced Recon Commando Trooper Action Figure Kit that allows you to convert a standard Clone Trooper and transform it into an ARC Trooper saving the buyer a considerable amount of money when considering how much animated ARC Trooper action figures cost these days. Unlike a lot of ARC Trooper kits floating around out there that just offer the kama, forearms, shins, puldron, backpack and a helmet... with this kit, the weapons are included as well as an articulating rangefinder. Please refer to our popular YouTube video on how to use the kit.
