"RYCAR RYJERD" created by Darth Daddy

The second addition to our Cantina for week two of our month long tribute to the Mos Eisley Cantina is Rycar Ryjerd.

Rycar Ryjerd was the father of Rayc Ryjerd. He was born on Corellia. Oftentimes, he found employment in the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine, training people to be pilots or to help smugglers make a run. At one point, he was a partner of Nabrun Leids, but they later went their own ways, while maintaining a friendly competition. Ryjerd was an expert gun-runner, and flew weapons for Jabba between Nar Shaddaa and Tatooine. He had a droll sense of humor, and was considered by others to be an idiot. His personal bodyguard was Shud Haloo.  His ship was named the Tower.

Rycar was present in Mos Eisley Cantina when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi chartered a flight off Tatooine on the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewbacca.

The body for the figure was an Endor Han Solo.  The head is a cast.

"ATHELOE aka THE COLONEL" created by Darth Daddy

For the month of April, Customs for the Kid will be posting a new Cantina custom every week for the next five weeks.  The first in the lineup is Atheloe. Now Atheloe goes by a number of names, The Colonel, Solomahal, and the Hare Mouse.  The head was a cast produced by I-AM-BOBA-FETT from Riff Valley Designs and was purchased through Facebook. After I painted the head, I laid synthetic hair onto the headcast where his moustache was located to give the figure a unique touch. I stole some hair off of one of Elias' old stuffed animals to make it happen.  It was my first attempt at doing hair work.  While it was very challenging, I was really happy that I was able to pull it off in this scale.

The jacket was handcrafted and the body of the figure was a 100% sculpted.  I used the Rancor Keeper body as my base figure, sanded it down and sculpted onto what remained.  I stained and modified the jacket from a Black Series Endor Han Solo. First I cut the jacket shorter, and then I created pockets from the scraps left behind.  I tried to keep the stitching wherever I could to give it a more finished look.

Atheloe was a male Lutrillian who lived during the Galactic Civil War. He was present in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina on the day that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker chartered Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon for passage to Alderaan in 0 BBY. Atheloe had a seat in front of the entrance and close to the bar. Atheloe is not very visible, and he receives little screen time, only briefly visible sitting near a pillar directly in front of the cantina entrance. Atheloe is more prominently featured in a rough cut of the cantina sequence.

SUPER-ARTICULATED "CAPTAIN PANAKA" created by Darth Daddy

Queen Amidala's loyal protector during the Trade Federation invasion crisis was Captain Panaka. Panaka was often referred to as "the quickest eyes on Naboo" for his attention to detail and selfless dedication to the safety of the Queen.

To create this super-articulated version of the character, I used the Captain Typho action figure from The Legacy Collection as my base figure.  I borrowed the head and gloves from the original figure and modified the Typho where needed.  Mostly it was the clothing that needed modifying and I was able to do that with a new sculpting medium I started using called ProCreate.  Instead of making the hat removable, I just made the head swappable.  Since I had two Panaka heads, I removed the hat from one, and sculpted in his hair.

CLONE WARS "CHANCELLOR PALPATINE" created by Darth Daddy

Finally had time to sculpt and paint the sleeves on this action figure after it was set aside for over a year.  So glad I wrapped this up and we can place him on the shelf alongside our other two Clone Wars  Chancellor Palpatine action figures.

There are many fans of the show that wished that this character was made in The Clone Wars style, but it just never happened.  There is a good chance if it were created, this would have been what it looked like.

"Medcha Wanto" created by Darth Daddy

After a very warm December, it finally feels as if winter has arrived.  We had one of our first snowfalls here at home, and we felt that now would be the perfect time to post an action figure that fit the frigid temperatures we are beginning to experience.

In The Clone Wars first season episode TrespassAnakin and Obi-Wan were caught in the middle of an escalating conflict between the furry territorial inhabitants of a desolate ice world and the greedy representatives of a nearby moon while investigating the disappearance of a clone security force.  The Talz species was first introduced in A New Hope in the iconic Cantina bar scene with the character of bar patron Muftak.  We loved that this species was brought back for an educational episode about the perils of advocating ethnocentrism.  So much so, that we wanted to pay tribute to the episode by immortalizing one of the Talz characters in plastic.

Medcha Wanto was a Talz who was scribe to the Talz chieftain Thi-Sen.  Hasbro produced an action figure of Thi-Sen that was one of the best figures we got from The Clone Wars action figure line. With removable accessories, the action figure gave consumers the ability to army build all the Talz warriors that they liked.

Good friend and Star Wars customizer, Peak-OB1 had the brilliant idea of adding accessories to the base figure to create the Medcha Wanto action figure.  To do so he fabricated a headdress and removable clothing to create the character.  We really admired his brilliance, and were very thankful when he let us borrow his sculpted headdress to mold and cast to make one of our own. The casting process wasn't perfect (air bubbles are the enemy) so I had to make a few adjustments to his original sculpt to repair the cast that was made.  After that I made a sculpt of his clothing and parchment from Green stuff to complete the figure.  Like Peak-OB1 Custom Creations, I made the accessories removable. We really liked how the figure came out!

CLONE WARS "CAPTAIN TARKIN" created by Darth Daddy

This was a fairly quick custom that I made not too long ago with the head of a POTF2 Grand Moff Tarkin, and the body of The Clone Wars Admiral Yularen action figure.  I sculpted some more hair onto the head and then painted the sculpt after drilling a hole into the bottom of the head to make it fit on the peg.

Captain Tarkin featured heavily in The Clone Wars both in The Citadel arc and during Ahsoka's trial. We thought Tarkin was more than worthy of a spot on The Clone Wars collection shelf.  Hope you all enjoy!
