3.75" SUPER-ARTICULATED "JYN ERSO - EADU" by Customs for the Kid

This was an extremely easy custom action figure to produce. We got the idea from Star Wars customizer, wedgeswingman, in a post he did in the Rebelscum forums. Fabrication takes two action figures of Jyn Erso to create. First you need either the 3.75" Black Series version of her or the newer Vintage Jyn Erso #119 that is available on store pegs right now.  The second figure that you need is the 5poa Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Jyn Erso for her head, poncho and accessories. First boil and pop the arms off the 5poa version of her so you can slip the poncho off the figure. If you remove the vest from the super-articulated figure that you chose from, you can possibly slip the poncho onto the figure if you can do so before the rubber cools. We made a slice with an X-acto knife along the right edge of her poncho where it wouldn't show when we glued it back in place after we slipped and stretched it over the super-articulated frame. We maintained pressure as the glue dried until it held firm. After, the poncho was in place we sculpted the baggier 3/4 sleeves of the poncho onto the forearms of the figure with ProCreate. Elias then gave the head a new repaint to finish her off, after Darth Daddy finished painting the body.

SUPER-ARTICULATED "REY (JAKKU)" created by Customs for the Kid

If only Hasbro provided consumers with a greater selection of super-articulated figures, or at the very least treat their consumer of the Black Series version of the Rey with all three heads for the character to justify the premium prices that they charge.  This version of the desert scavenger is just a simple head swap using the 5POA "Rogue One" Rey (Jakku) head with the Black Series body of Rey.  The combination looks great and the most lengthy part of the customizing process was opening the package for the two figures the parts came from.

One day we would love to see Hasbro return to a larger super-articulated line and ditch the 5POA line all together. Until then, we have to create figures like this Jakku Rey by purchasing two figures to create the one we really want.

Super-Articulated "Episode VII - Han Solo" created by Darth Daddy

On this day of celebrating independence, Customs for the Kid felt Han Solo best embodied the rebel spirit that we all wish we could emulate.  Assisting in taking out two Death Stars and the Starkiller Base in Force Awakens, I can think of no other so accomplished.  Paying tribute to the character meant constructing and executing a plan.

Transitioning the 5 POA action figure into a super-articulated one is easier than you would think, and all it takes to pull it off are parts from three Han Solo figures that can currently be found in stores.  First, I popped the head and jacket off of the "Force Awakens" Han Solo to set them aside to use in my project, and then placed the rest of the figure back in the fodder bin to use some other day. Next, I drilled the waist peg for The Black Series Endor Han Solo in the open space at the back of the figure to separate the lower from the upper torso. I then drilled what was left of the peg out of the inside of the upper torso to maintain a clear channel while being careful not to damage or change the upper torso in any way.  I then used a Dremel to hard-sculpt the front of the Endor shirt to texture the top to match the lower torso that I boiled free from the The Black Series - Han Solo "Starkiller Base" action figure which I planned to use the legs from.  I also borrowed the blaster and holster from this Han. While the peg on top of the lower torso was still warm, I connected the Starkiller Base legs to the bottom of the Endor Han torso. I then prepped the joints in the elbows and shoulders of the newly formed figure to eliminate paint rub. After that, I painted the arms on the figure to look like the sleeves of the removable jacket of the "Force Awakens" Han Solo by mixing some black and brown acrylic paint to match it as close as I could.  I also painted the two separate colors of the top and bottom shirts from my action figure to create a shared color that would no longer contrast each other. At the end all that was left to do was open the neck peg hole a little on the head before attaching it snugly to the top. When the figure was completely dry and sealed, I slipped the removable jacket from the 5POA figure onto my new creation.  The custom figure doesn't take very long to do at all and can be finished in just an hour or two.

SUPER-ARTICULATED "CAPTAIN PANAKA" created by Darth Daddy

Queen Amidala's loyal protector during the Trade Federation invasion crisis was Captain Panaka. Panaka was often referred to as "the quickest eyes on Naboo" for his attention to detail and selfless dedication to the safety of the Queen.

To create this super-articulated version of the character, I used the Captain Typho action figure from The Legacy Collection as my base figure.  I borrowed the head and gloves from the original figure and modified the Typho where needed.  Mostly it was the clothing that needed modifying and I was able to do that with a new sculpting medium I started using called ProCreate.  Instead of making the hat removable, I just made the head swappable.  Since I had two Panaka heads, I removed the hat from one, and sculpted in his hair.

Super-Articulated "Finn aka FN-2187 in First Order Stormtrooper Armor" created by Customs for the Kid

A few months ago, we made a 5POA version of Finn in his First Order Stormtrooper Armor.  It was a custom that took only a few seconds to create. This time around we put a little more effort into it. Instead of using the 5POA Stormtrooper body as the base figure like we did in our previous effort, this time around we utilized the Black Series super-articulated figure exclusive to Wal-mart to make our latest version of Finn. For this custom, we hollowed out the Stormtrooper helmet so it would fit over Finn's head, and painted the bloody handprint on.  To make the head from a Black Series Finn fit onto the Stormtrooper body, we just had to reduce the size of the neck peg to accommodate the head. We like this action figure a great deal more.

Since Finn barely participated in the battle of Jakku, and refrained from even firing off his blaster, we decided to not weather the armor on the figure.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: SWK KUSTOMS

Now that Star Wars Rebels is in full swing and we have a few of the first episodes behind us, we thought that it would be a good time for our blog to display some Star Wars Rebels custom action figures to add to the excitement building around the show.  SWK Kustoms did a masterful job of adding elbow, knee, wrist, and ankle articulation to the figures from the 3-pack that is available in Toys R' Us without experiencing any of the downfalls associated with paint rub.  The customized lightsaber for Ezra was also handled in an impressive manner.  We especially loved the removable blade on his saber.  Almost all of us complained about the 5 points of articulation in the Rebels line that Hasbro was releasing, so it's nice to know that there are customizers out there providing the articulation that we all desire to give our figures more pose-ability for play.

With around 300 customs under his belt, SWK Kustoms specializes in fully articulated figures! SWK Kustoms creates fully articulated and detailed Custom 4” figures. Star Wars, Star Trek, DC, Marvel or anything you can think of. With SWK you can also become your favorite character as well: Jedi, Sith, Storm trooper, Mandalorian and much more. Figures can be purchased upon request. Price is based on how hard the piece is to make, usually between $50-150. All figures come with specialized weapons or gear & name plate stands.
