CAFN: Episode 44: Lucasclones and Tamer Chat Over Coffee on a Sunday Part 2

CAFN: Episode 44

Join Lucasclones and Tamer as they chat over Sunday morning coffee.  While we can't completely agree with their view on this season of Clone Wars, we can still enjoy their podcast.  The Star Wars franchise has always been about family entertainment and that means sometimes kids need to get their share of episodes that are written with them in mind.  Older fans of the show tend to get impatient when this happens, and we understand when that happens, but here at CFTK we understand that sometimes we have to share the show with the younger fans and we can still enjoy Season 5 of our favorite show.

Hyperdrive Added to "Customs I Wish I Owned"

When it comes to customizing, Hyperdrive's signature "weathered and worn" soft goods are unique. He has been honing his craft for many years with no studio, only his wife's sewing room and kitchen island. It takes about a week to create each figure with great care and attention to detail. Each piece starts with an "ultra articulated" custom base figure, sanded down to remove any features that may reveal a bump or bulge from under the custom clothes. The clothes are then custom crafted to the size and shape of each figure for the best possible fit. Hyperdrive strives for maximum articulation underneath the fabric giving the figure a realistic look. Some of his favorite characters include, Kenobi, Qui Gon Jinn, Vader, Yoda, General Veers, Watto, Maul, Greedo, Jawas and Gamorreans.

Hyperdrive's soft goods work is just amazing! Once we saw his figures we knew we had to include his work amongst the other artists we have featured here on our blog. Our video museum full of talented Star Wars custom action figure artists just wouldn't have been complete without him. Hyperdrive is the guy that Hasbroshould hire to handle all the soft good clothing design on all figures going forward, but don't take our word for it, check out his custom action figures in the video below.

The "Deena Shan" Do Over

Now, Dad will tell you that he doesn't know very much about this Star Wars character.  All he knows is that this character was supposed to be nice on the eyes and Hasbro's 2-pack version of her well - just didn't measure up.  Once we found the head of the Avengers Black Widow action figure, we decided to give the Deena Shan figure that I have in my collection a little update.

DEENA SHAN

Deena Shan was a young Human female who, looking for adventure and a better life for herself, left her homeworld of Etti IV and became a private in the Alliance to Restore the Republic shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Initially working as a supply officer on the Kalla's Stanchion, she found herself accompanying Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Chewbacca after an Imperial attack; and fighting alongside the famous Rebels solidified her decision to join the Alliance.

She later posed as an Imperial lieutenant on a mission to the Imperial base of Kalist VI, where she and Imperial Captain Kale Roshuir quickly developed a mutual attraction. Despite her feelings for him, Shan led Roshuir's forces into a trap where many of them were killed, allowing the Rebels to free the captive Jorin Sol and escape with a group of Jabiimi slaves and vital fuel for the Alliance Fleet, but forever making an enemy of her lover.

Confused by her feelings for Roshuir and determined to prove her worth to the Rebels, Shan later accompanied Luke Skywalker on a mission to rescue his old friend Janek Sunber. Despite again encountering Kale Roshuir, who attempted to stop them, Shan and Skywalker were able to rescue Sunber and return to the Rebel Fleet, though their unsanctioned mission resulted in them both being disciplined.

The two soon worked together once more in a mission to infiltrate Bannistar Station. Though the mission went awry, with most of the Rebels either killed or captured by Imperial forces, Shan was able to evade capture and destroy a Star Destroyer as well as a significant portion of the station. After her comrades managed to escape, the group fled the station and Shan returned to the Alliance Fleet as a hero.

A LONG OVERDUE POST: CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT: WRAITHNINE UPDATED

So you're all in for a real astromech treat.  We've been wanting to do this post for over a month now, but it never got put together until now.  The good news is we have a lot of these long overdue treats coming down the assembly line.

These next two droids were both created by Star Wars action figure customizer Wraithnine.  When Dad heard that Wraithnine was selling the R2-C2 that he created, Dad thought it would be cool if we gave him a home next to the Ziro the Hutt that Dad created.  Dad bought him right away as a birthday present for me back in October.

What's even cooler was that Wraithnine sent me a R2-T8 astromech as a birthday gift from him.  Thanks so much Jay! That was very generous of you.  The droid is a shining example of why you are the astromech GOD! I love seeing Ziro and R2-C2 next to each other.  Your droids make my room more magical.
