"THE CLONE WARS" SATINE KRYZE (ADVENTURE OUTFIT) created by Elias of "Customs of the Kid"

This was a super fun project to tackle for a client. Especially since both my client and I are HUGE fans of Satine Kryze as a character! As a result, this project was filled with lots of love and effort to make assurances that I got this figure right. What impressed me most about this client was how prepared she was compared to other clients. She already knew the parts she wanted used in the build, had ordered two Satine heads and her blaster from Audes Workshop on eBay, had said parts on hand, and was prepared to ship them over.

The torso and thighs of a Clone Wars Assaj Ventress action figure, the arms of a Clone Wars Adventure Padme Amidala action figure, and the knees and boots of The Clone Wars Aayla Secura action figure. Once boiled, popped apart, and reassembled into the desired recipe of parts, I sanded down the figure completely. After preparing her for sculpting, I got busy with some ProCreate we had here at home and laid out all the necessary forms. After her silhouette was established I started to sculpt in all the detail, and followed that run with another pass adding in all the fine detail.

The soft goods were hand cut and stitched by yours truly. Before even touching any fabric, I made the dress pattern with some paper and scissors. This was only my second venture into crafting my own homemade soft goods so with it being a new challenge, I wanted to take my time and get it right. Dad used to do the soft goods on our figures in the past, so I definitely still consider myself a novice in soft goods creation, but after seeing how nicely Satine's dress came out, Dad told me he wished I had been the one making the soft goods all this time instead of him. Ha ha. For her dress, I used some leftover fabric we had from the time Dad made me a Mother Talzin custom action figure for my 9th birthday.

Once the figure was completely assembled, sculpted, and the soft goods were applied, I quickly got to painting the figure. Painting two alternating heads was challenging because it was important to me that I got them as close to identical as possible and replication can take time when you make your own paint colors and don't just paint from a bottle. I find that making my own paint mixes make it easier when adding highlights and contrasting shades of color to make the paint really pop.

Both the client and I love the way she came out. She looks so good posed with the other action figures from the toy line. Another example of what we might have seen if the Clone Wars action figure had lived on for another couple of years.

Another happy client!

Over the moon that the voice of Satine Kryze, actor Anna Graves, took the time to comment on the action figure I just made!

Loved getting to see the Satine Kryze action figure I made on Victoria's Cantina!

Looking Ahead

So now that 2013 is forging ahead, we here at Customs for the Kid have been giving some thought to the custom action figures we'd like to create going forward.  Some of these projects have already been started, parted, and yes, even sculpted.  Sure, creating this many sculpted figures might be overly ambitious, but if we can do it, it would be quite the accomplishment.  Make sure you stick around and see how many of these we get done.

Rako Hardeen

This figure will be mostly sculpted, but we are already getting started on parting him out.  Not sure where any of these will fall as far as a completion schedule, but he's definitely on our radar.

Duchess Satine Krayze of Mandalore

We have a feeling that this figure will present several challenges, but that's no reason to not try.  Hopefully Dad will utilize some of his experience with his Mother Talzin figure to get this one done.

Gardulla the Hutt

The first phase of sculpting is done on this one, now we just have to sculpt in the fine wrinkled detail.

General Pong Krell

This figure is completed.

JEDI GENERAL PONG KRELL - COMPLETED

Trandoshan Hunters

Creating these guys is going to depend on how well Dad's molding and casting abilities progress this year.  Stay tuned.  More to follow.

Diva Shaliqua

Diva Shaliqua - COMPLETED

Clone Wars Boba Fett Season 4

This guy has been parted out and Dad has already started the head sculpt and the helmet creation.  We'd like to see this guy finished soon.

Kazdan Paratus

This is another figure that is parted out.  We just found the mechanical arms we want to use. we only need to sculpt his backpack, attach the arms, and paint this guy up.

Ione Marcy

Since we have a Cassie Cryar that Peakob1 made for us, we thought it would only be fitting to create an Ione Marcy to go with her.  We just need to do the finishing touches on this one..

Large Weequay Pirate

This guy is already parted out too. Hopefully Dad will start the sculpting on this one soon.  We can't wait to add him to Hondo's Pirate Gang.

WEEQUAY CRAGGY TOOTH PIRATE A - COMPLETED

Rumi Paramita

This is another action figure that has already been parted out and is only waiting for Dad to sculpt.  We ended up shopping this one out to Star Wars customizer Peakob1.

Hope we can follow through on all these figures and that we can blow you away with our results when they are all wrapped up.
