"DD-BD" modified and painted by Darth Daddy

DD-BD was a masculine-programmed WDD adminmech droid[4] that operated within the control hub of mining operations on Kessel. Before being sold into slavery, DD-BD served on a Morseerian pirate ship. However, when the ship was impounded by the Empire, he was found there and sold at auction to the Pyke Syndicate for just a fraction of his worth. From there, he was put to work as a slave in the mining operation center on the planet Kessel. In 10 BBY, DD-BD was freed from slavery when his restraining bolt was removed during a slave revolt in the mines started by the droid L3-37. As the first of many droids freed, DD-BD helped spark a rebellion on Kessel.

The base of this figure was printed from a 3-D design by Isotelus. Dad then modified the sculpt of the print with Aves and some ProCreate to increase the screen accuracy.

DD-BD was encased in a white plastoid shell with heavy weighted feet for enhanced stability. He was equipped with a hybrid radar eye and photoreceptor and an electroprobe with variable voltage settings. During his time working on Kessel he was fitted with a powerful restraining bolt that was welded to his body and capable of shutting him down or shocking him for failing to obey commands.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: "Custom Star Wars Action Figure Displays" by thecardboardgalaxy

Quite some time ago, we came across some very cool custom Star Wars action figure displays  on eBay.  We thought that they were the perfect backgrounds to display the custom action figures that we make for the blog. It was then that we learned about the Star Wars custom artist that went by the name thecardboardgalaxy.  We received our first three backgrounds in the mail and were so impressed with the products being offered, we buy his new displays every chance we get. Check out our most recent acquisitions below of Han Solo's Eravana corridor, Ach To, and Jedha displays.

If you want to catch the eyes of your peers, a nice background is key to your overall presentation, even if it is just a clean solid background color. We highly recommend these displays to custom action figure artists that want to display their finished action figure art in all its glory.  If you spend hours working on a figure it deserves a good photoshoot with a nice background to complement it. Good backgrounds are something we can't stress enough to artists just starting out.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: RESIN CASTS, 3D PRINTED ACCESSORIES & PLAYSETS

Customizing action figures can be quite expensive.  Especially if you have to buy a $15 action figure and the only piece that you need is the head.  To avoid breaking the bank, advanced customizers will sometimes make a mold of the piece that they need, and then reproduce the required part with plastic cast resin. I have made a few casts of my own over the years creating things like: extra Clone Wars Chancellor Palpatine heads, Weequay pirate heads, and the lightsaber hilts for my General Pong Krell custom action figure.  Creating casts can be both cost effective and a huge time saver.

Several customizing artists have begun to sell their cast pieces to the public and their offerings are just awesome.  Over the years, I have bought cast pieces from many of these artists.

This week, I thought I'd share with you some of the artists that I have purchased from to provide you with a resource that can help you enhance your own collections and give you the ability to acquire some of these pieces for your own. From assorted head casts to accessories and full blown playsets, these guys offer it all.  Below are pictures with samples of each artists work as well as their names and links to the online stores.  I figured with tax returns coming in, I'd offer you all the opportunity to acquire some of these great items. Happy shopping!

"THE CHILD" painted by ELIAS

So here at home, we are not immune to all the hype surrounding The Mandalorian on Disney+. We were so excited for the show we purchased a year of the new streaming service before it even launched. Now that the app is launched we don't know if there is enough content to keep us interested in maintaining the commitment going forward. While we are certainly excited for new Star Wars content, we also learned that was the only content on the service that could keep our attention. As far as the show goes, The Mandalorian definitely delivered.

Not only did we love the look of the show, but it was a solid show on all fronts. We loved the cast, the premise and the execution.

We especially loved the introduction of "The Child" at the end of the first episode. Based on fan reception, it appears wea re not alone in our feelings on the surprise addition to the cast. Retail items are slowly trickling into stores, but are arriving at a pace a bit too slow for the collecting community. As a result, an enormous of fan made items are flooding the market.

We picked up a 3.75" scale resin cast version of the character on eBay from Watto's Scrapyard. We really like the non-articulated sculpt. We received it in the mail shortly after we placed our order and I painted him up as soon as Dad told me he made the purchase. We highly recommend picking one of these up. We also bought a second version from Asis Film Models that we will post on the blog when he is received. Until then, enjoy the new addition to our collection!
