Star Wars Celebration Anaheim - Action Figure Customizing Panel Video Presentation & Commemorative Video
Big thanks to swnut77.com for posting this video. It's the first one we found so far.
Sillof provided the audience with an introduction to the hobby, and explained the different types of customs that exist. He gave a brief overview of how custom action figures are made, how to disassemble and reassemble action figures, sculpting help, paint tips, as well as information on molding and casting. Other topics covered were 3-D printing, as well as the supplies and resources that Star Wars custom action figure artists utilize in their step-by-step process.
Six artists were featured: PeakOB1, Sillof, Sith_fire30, Chewie, and Customs for the Kid aka Darth Daddy & Elias. It's was a huge honor for us to be included in the featured artists at this year's panel.
The Panel had some of the best Celebration exclusives available, random giveaways of Star Wars custom action figures created by the featured artists. This was one panel you didn't want to miss.
The event was sponsored by Aves and Sculpey.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: CELEBRATION ANAHEIM - ACTION FIGURE CUSTOMIZING PANEL
So if you all have been wondering why I haven't posted in a while, it is because I have been working on developing content for the upcoming Action Figure Customizing Panel being held at Celebration Anaheim. It is only the second time ever that this panel is being presented at a Star Wars Celebration. The first time was at Celebration VI. Jamie Follis aka Sillof will be hosting the event once more on Friday, April 17th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on the Collector's Stage 210AB.
Sillof will provide the audience with an introduction to the hobby, and explain the different types of customs that exist. He'll even give a brief overview of how custom action figures are made, how to disassemble and reassemble action figures, sculpting help, paint tips, as well as information on molding and casting. Other topics covered will be 3-D printing, as well as the supplies and resources that Star Wars custom action figure artists utilize in their step-by-step process.
There will also be a customizer showcase featuring some of the most talented Star Wars customizers in the hobby today. The five artists being featured are: PeakOB1, Sillof, Sith_fire30, Chewie, and me, Darth Daddy. It's a huge honor for me to be one of the featured artists at this year's panel. Unfortunately, I will not be attending Celebration, but I'm glad I will still have some kind of presence at the event. The Panel will also have the best Celebration exclusives available, random giveaways of Star Wars custom action figures created by the featured artists. This is one panel you don't want to miss.
The event will be sponsored by Aves and Sculpey. Also be on the lookout for Sillof at the Diorama Workshop located at the Hasbro booth where he will be teaching classes on how to build Star Wars custom action figures. Class participation is limited so be sure to sign up as soon as you get to Celebration so you don't miss your chance to be taught by one of the masters.

Last Celebration more than half of the people who were waiting on line for the Action Figure Customizing Panel had to be turned away once the room filled to capacity. so if you want to get one of these exclusive items, you better get on line for the panel early. It's a must see event! Be there on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Collector's Stage 210AB.

This video was put together by Darth Daddy of "Customs for the Kid". It was created to play during the Q&A of the Action Figure Customizing Panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this past Friday. The video features almost all of the Star Wars custom action figure artist's work Customs for the Kid have archived here on our blog. We hope it's a nice surprise for the artists whose work appears in the video to know that their work was planning on being displayed in front of the Celebration audience this year.

Now Dayton Allen aka Sith_fire30 is always the first name you will hear out of pretty much every customizer's mouth when you ask them who's the best Star Wars customizer out there today, and I will second that statement without any hesitation. Dayton has definitely influenced me more than any other artist I've come across since I became part of the community. If it weren't for Dayton, I don't think I ever would have started sculpting.
His sculpt work and his paint applications are downright phenomenal, and his talents have already earned him some serious recognition. Sith_fire30 is one of the few customizing artists to ever appear within the pages of Star Wars Insider (Issue 121). Sith_fire30 was also chosen as one of the customizers asked to host the first ever Star Wars Custom Action Figure Panel at Star Wars Celebration VI, alongside artists Sillof and Luke Sprywalker.
Sith_fire30 has taken the bar and raised it so high, I just can't see any artist surpassing what he has accomplished. He is constantly adding new techniques to his toolbox enhancing his art. Just take a look at the image of the Savage Opress below. The entire figure has little magnets inserted into the body at different points throughout the figure, all hidden, drilled into place, and sculpted over. He also sculpted magnets into Savage's armor so the it just clings to the body when it's brought near.
Genius!
Dayton creates the ultimate editions of our favorite characters complete with alternate head sculpts and armor with battle damage, consistently creating the most ideal figure for every situation. And the best part about Sith_fire30 is that he knows how to keep the action in the figure. He gives all of his action figures super-articulation. His figures have silenced even the harshest of critics. He has taken action figure art beyond where we ever dreamed it could go. It's just amazing how he fits in all the detail and articulation in a 3 3/4" scale action figure.
This talented customizer and diorama builder also writes a super informative blog that takes you step by step through his creative process while also providing great educational bits like his wonderful eye painting tutorial. Sith_fire30 has one of the best custom action figure blogs out there. His video tutorials on Youtube detailing how to do molding and casting were absolutely priceless when I began to teach myself those techniques at home. He hasn't been posting on his blog quite as often as he used to, but he is always updating his Facebook page with the latest progress on his current projects.
Unfortunately it has been a while since Dayton has created any new Star Wars offerings due to being tied up with his current projects, but if you are a fan of the Alien franchise, head to his Flickr page now. His latest work is even more mind-blowing than his older projects.

CAFN EPISODE #60: Sith_fire30
We always love any opportunity we have to hear Sith_fire30 interviewed and last nights interview on Custom Action Figure News was just as enjoyable as the rest. We heard about some great molding and casting products, as well as techniques for how to use them. Although this episode interview was dominated by talk about his incredible line of figures from the Alien franchise, there was still plenty of time for Star Wars talk regarding work in progress figures of his Star Wars Invasion Sprague and Spider Leg Darth Maul. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed.

COMING SOON
Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy
and Sith_fire30 are in the process
of creating a YouTube based show that will have a format with a
action figure customizing tournament as the focus. The show will be utilizing Google+
Hangout, as well as, content created by the contest participants that they will
upload to Youtube. The show is to be hosted by none other than famous Fangirl Wookielover1138 of the YouTube cult
favorite, Kessel Run Review.
The show will have six (6) hand-picked contestants participating
in our 1st season. We are keeping
participation limited, because of the demand that is required of contestants on
top of providing judges “work in progress” and “finished” pictures of their
work.
Participants will have to be people who really
want to challenge themselves. In our show, participants will be required to
document the production of their work by posting their own content with the
assistance of a YouTube based account.
These videos should be tutorial videos that educate viewers on the
process that the participants used to create their weekly entries. The Youtube video content will later be used
to compliment “Google+ Hangout” content that will be recorded when the
contestants and judges interact in a “video chat” together as a group. In the end, the production team will edit all
the recorded video content together into an episode, including the judging of
the entries which will be conducted by Luke Sprywalker, Darth Daddy and Sith_fire30.
The show will have 5 challenges over
the course of the season and players will compete for points until there is 1 winner named at the end of the last challenge. The contestants will have 10 days (2
weekends) to create their submission after a new theme is introduced.
The idea is to educate fans of the show in regards to the artistic process involved in custom action figure creation and we're hopeful that through this format the talent on hand will get as much exposure as possible. We are currently in the process of building a website for it as it will
be an ongoing project with numerous tournaments taking place.
We just wanted to put a feeler
out there to see who may be interested in participating in an event like this. We're thinking we may not have very many
applicants due to the demand put on the contestants, so that is why we're
keeping the number of participants so low. This number could increase in
future seasons depending on the response we get the first go round. We'd like to get as many seasons out of this
as possible.
All interested parties will have
to provide a Youtube link to a video that introduces them to the judges and the
audience, as well as, three photos of their best work.
What do you think?
How many of you would be interested in
participating in a show like this?
Let us know in our comments section.

CAFN: Episode 50 - Sith_fire30
CAFN: Episode 50 - Sith_fire30
CAFN reached a milestone when they brought back Dayton Allen aka Sith_fire30 for their 50th episode. This was a great interview where Dayton shared some great new molding and casting products that he has discovered and shared with our hosts details on his work on the Alien action figure line that he has been working on as well as how his Star Wars custom action figure creations have been progressing along. Sith_fire30 is still the best Star Wars customizer that we've ever seen. Check out his awesome blog and listen to this podcast where we all get to hear from the customizer that the community truly admires. Dad's slideshow of Sith_fire30's work is still one of our most popular videos. We definitely recommend giving it a look.
