3.75" "STAR WARS REBELS (SEASON 3 & 4)" KANAN JARRUS custom action figure created by Customs for the Kid

To celebrate 12 years of blogging, Darth Daddy picked up the sculpting tools and started a new figure after 2 years away from the hobby. Dad announced his retirement from the blog on our 10-year anniversary just before he had surgery performed on both of his eyes to treat a rare degenerative eye condition he developed. The surgery was successful but it took about a full year for his eyes to heal post surgery.

While Dad definitely expressed that he missed making custom figures, he spent the year after his recovery searching for a different job to facilitate some big changes he had been hoping to make. Well,  Dad landed a more than satisfactory upgrade to his former employment and spent a little free time returning to one of his favorite pastimes.

Dad thought that making a 1/18 scale "Star Wars Rebels" Kanan Jarrus from Season 3 and 4 would be a fitting project to take on for our 12-year anniversary celebration. To make Kanan, Dad used TVC Young Han Solo from the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" film as his base for the figure. He removed the figures jacket, sanded down the original figure with a Dremel and then re-sculpted the figure to look like Kanan. I helped Dad a bit with the shoulder pads when his new job became a bit too time consuming. After the sculpt was completed, Dad laid down the first few coats of paint onto the figure and then I finished the figure up by doing all the fine detail paintwork so we could reach our anniversary deadline. It was really nice to work on a custom figure together again.

It is important to mention that we used three Kanan Jarrus heads produced by Watto's Scrapyard for our figure both to feature all Kanan's different looks over the course of the last two seasons of the show, and well, to save on time. All three heads painted up beautifully and definitely helped us finish the project faster than if we had to sculpt all three heads from scratch.

We love the final result and I am really excited to have a little help with the blog again now that Dad can make the occasional custom figure here and there.

We're curious to hear what you'd like to see Dad make as far as future projects go. Any requests?

"DARK DISCIPLE" ASSAJ VENTRESS & QUINLAN VOS created by ELIAS of "CUSTOMS FOR THE KID"

This is one of the coolest commission requests an artist could ask for. We are huge Assaj Ventress fans here at Customs for the Kid. Getting to give her our version of a proper send off is a dream come true. Sure this Ventress figure was easily one of the most difficult paint applications we ever had to do on a custom action figure but the final results are more than we ever could have hoped for.

Both Assaj Ventress and Quinlan Vos are 100% sculpted and loaded with articulation. Ventress features a ball jointed head, ball jointed upper torso, ball jointed shoulders, ball jointed elbows, swivel forearms, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, ball jointed knees and rocker ankles. Quinlan Vos has a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, ball jointed elbows, swivel wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, ball jointed knees and rocker ankles. Even his shoulder pads have the ability to move in place thanks to some genius engineering implemented to increase shoulder articulation.

The accessories we were able to include, while challenging to produce, really enhance the figures. The magnetically attached Nightsister bow was created in Blender and printed on our 3D printer with Tenacious resin for maximum durability. believe it or not, the goggles on Ventress were actually handsculpted and snap on and off with ease. The Ventress lightsaber was half of a Darth Maul lightsaber that was molded and casted in a dyed yellow resin then painted to bring out the details. For Vos the guns were molded and casted from a Hoth Han Solo action figure.

OUR "MAY THE 4TH" MANDO!

We have been a bit overwhelmed with work over here at Customs for the Kid. Unfortunately we didn't get to go all out for the 4th, but life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

Let it be said that doesn't mean we are going to leave you hanging either though. This is just a quick project that you could all likely recreate at home with just a few items that can be grabbed online and a few hours of work. In the hyperlinks are just a few customization items that can be used to recreate the Din Djarin we did here today. These same offerings could even be applied to another project completely. This is the way! Or May?!

A lot of collectors have complained about the end of vac metallization in action figure production. Even more so now that Din Djarin has been introduced to the Star Wars galaxy. One solution we have been using at home has been chroming out the desired parts of our figures with the Molotow Chrome Markers we purchased while browsing the web for art supplies. We get the markers in a variety of sizes to meet all our needs.

The Beskar pauldron Mando wears on his shoulder we picked up from Audes_Workshop on eBay. It was part of a full armor kit he was selling at the time.  I dremelled the existing pauldron and simply glued on the replacement.  Once it was in place I applied the chrome in a single coat.  To unify the color pallet, I applied a coat of Molotow to the helmet as well.

The last piece that we added to the figure is an alternate wired soft goods cape that we also purchased on eBay. It works really well for action poses. We bought it so long ago we couldn't find the name of the seller, but we found one that is active currently found here at the top of this paragraph.

Our new custom looked great posed with the blurrgs and heavy machine cannon we purchased from Uzay Customs!
