ASIS FILM MODELS - THE FORCE AWAKENS "NIMA OUTPOST - BOBBAJO KIT" assembled & painted by ELIAS

This is a project we finished earlier in the year but just got around to posting up on the blog. The "Nima Outpost Model Kit for Bobbajo" produced by Asis Film Models is a 3.75" scale figurine and is a great addition to any Star Wars action figure collection. It is an ultra-detailed resin cast that we purchased online. Once we received it in the mail, we then assembled and painted it by hand.

Bobbajo was a male Nu-Cosian[2] with a white beard who lived on Jakku approximately thirty years after the Battle of Endor.[6] He carried a group of animals around in cages, including frog-like gwerps, chicken-like pishnes, a lonlan, two zhhee and an ill-tempered worrt named J'Rrosch.[2][4] His calm demeanor helped settle down the animals while he transported them.[5] He roamed between the settlements of the planet telling stories to local villagers and entertaining children with the talents of his menagerie. He claimed his creatures were responsible for the destruction of the first Death Star, but few believe him. This earned him the names of the "Storyteller" and the "Crittermonger".[2] Bobbajo was the only other vendor known to be allowed to sell food in Niima Outpost by Unkar Plutt. His customers however, were restricted solely to spacers.[7]

Bobbajo was first shown in "Star Wars: Force for Change - A Message from J.J. Abrams", a video released on YouTube in 2014 in which J.J. Abrams introduced the charity campaign Star Wars: A Force for Change. The video was filmed on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens and showed the creature walking behind Abrams while he talked, at one stage drawing the director's attention. He was one of the first new characters from Episode VII to have been shown. He was portrayed by Aidan Cook in the film.

3.75" "CRUSHER" ROODOWN Action Figure painted by Darth Daddy

Roodown, nicknamed "Crusher" Roodown, was an Abednedo scavenger on the planet Jakku that angered his employer, the junk dealer Unkar Plutt, who suspected he was selling salvage to a different buyer. As a consequence, Plutt's thugs cut off his arms, ending his life as a scavenger. However, Roodown was allowed to work for Plutt as a strong back around Niima Outpost using his replacement load-lifter arms, which greatly increased his strength.

He witnessed Plutt being kidnapped by the criminal Zool Zendiat, and described what had happened to the scavenger Rey when she arrived to investigate. When the Star Destroyer Spectral was uncovered by a storm in the desert, Plutt encouraged the scavengers of Niima to ransack it for him and had Roodown throttle the scavenger Teedo when he questioned the junk dealer. Constable Zuvio then sliced off Roodown's mechanical hand in order to stop any further harm befalling Teedo. In 34 ABY, shortly after the First Order attacked the nearby Tuanul village, he passed by Rey in the outpost.

This action figure was made from a very rare cast figure model that was created by ASIS FILM MODELS. It was a limited edition cast and the sculpt is just amazing! When I saw Roodown in The Force Awakens, he was the first character that I knew I wanted an action figure of. Unfortunately, Hasbro never made him. Fortunately for me, ASIS FILM MODELS did. The cast was a lot of fun to paint and I really love the design of the cast. Unlike the majority of ASIS's offerings that are completely static, this cast actually has ball jointed shoulders. He looks great on display with all of our other Force Awakens action figures.

We highly recommend the offerings of ASIS FILM MODELS.

CUSTOMIZER SPOTLIGHT UPDATE: "Custom Star Wars Action Figure Displays" by thecardboardgalaxy

Quite some time ago, we came across some very cool custom Star Wars action figure displays  on eBay.  We thought that they were the perfect backgrounds to display the custom action figures that we make for the blog. It was then that we learned about the Star Wars custom artist that went by the name thecardboardgalaxy.  We received our first three backgrounds in the mail and were so impressed with the products being offered, we buy his new displays every chance we get. Check out our most recent acquisitions below of Han Solo's Eravana corridor, Ach To, and Jedha displays.

If you want to catch the eyes of your peers, a nice background is key to your overall presentation, even if it is just a clean solid background color. We highly recommend these displays to custom action figure artists that want to display their finished action figure art in all its glory.  If you spend hours working on a figure it deserves a good photoshoot with a nice background to complement it. Good backgrounds are something we can't stress enough to artists just starting out.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: RESIN CASTS, 3D PRINTED ACCESSORIES & PLAYSETS

Customizing action figures can be quite expensive.  Especially if you have to buy a $15 action figure and the only piece that you need is the head.  To avoid breaking the bank, advanced customizers will sometimes make a mold of the piece that they need, and then reproduce the required part with plastic cast resin. I have made a few casts of my own over the years creating things like: extra Clone Wars Chancellor Palpatine heads, Weequay pirate heads, and the lightsaber hilts for my General Pong Krell custom action figure.  Creating casts can be both cost effective and a huge time saver.

Several customizing artists have begun to sell their cast pieces to the public and their offerings are just awesome.  Over the years, I have bought cast pieces from many of these artists.

This week, I thought I'd share with you some of the artists that I have purchased from to provide you with a resource that can help you enhance your own collections and give you the ability to acquire some of these pieces for your own. From assorted head casts to accessories and full blown playsets, these guys offer it all.  Below are pictures with samples of each artists work as well as their names and links to the online stores.  I figured with tax returns coming in, I'd offer you all the opportunity to acquire some of these great items. Happy shopping!
